The demise of Thoroughbred racing

Seeing the Arlington Park topic reminded me of the old days of Secretariat and before Man of War…

When Man of War died the country almost came to stand still

Man O’ War had died at age 30 after several heart attacks. A few days later he was buried at Faraway Farm. A huge crowd of 2,000 people showed up to say good bye to the champion. Millions more listened to the broadcast on radio.

To me Secretariat was possibly greatest horse I ever saw, he knew he was great and really could play to a camera… even in a paddock once he noticed a camera in a crowd would pose for the photographer
