the equicizer

http://www.equicizer.com/images/equicizer.com/default.aspx?contentName=Home%20Page&news=1/

You know, the mechanical horse the jockeys practice/workout on.

Has anyone ever used one? Known someone who used one? What do you think?

Do all jockey rooms have one? Do most jockeys have one at home?

Does it have any use for hunter/jumper people?

I’m just looking to learn more.

Thanks.

The Equicizer was invented by Frank Lovato, Jr.
He has an open wall on FB with all the information~

His dad, (*obviously) Frank Lovato, also a jockey, now 75, won over 3000 races himself and still has a string of horses at Penn National with his wife, Pat.

Frank Lovato, Jr also wrote and sang this song in a tribute to Seabiscuit

Most jock rooms have one (at least the ones I’ve been in), and alot of riders own them for their personall use. It is very useful in practicing switching sticks and using a stick.

I really cant equate in my mind how it would benefit a hunter/jumper rider.

On their website it says there is a dressage rider who uses it, or some version of it.

Boy, is it hard, and I mean hard. It really is a workout. I’m sure if you are in jockey riding shape, it’s not too difficult, but it killed me, and I’m in good shape for the average person.

It would be helpful for hunters/jumpers to keep you strong and fit, which is helpful to everyone;)

Wow! Thank you everyone for your kind comments. This is Frank Lovato Jr “Frankie”. This thread came to me in a google alert. Yeah, the Equicizer is used by every discipline under the sun. Does not have to be ridden like a jockey or any specific discipline. You can ride and exercise in the saddle that really zero’s in on your riding muscles you need starting at the core, and great for the legs. If anyone would like, visit the Equicizer youtube channel and you will see three playlist, one is for racing, Equestrians of many disciplines and also used for therapy for people with disabilities.

I would be happy to answer any questions. Happy trails everyone and thank you again! Especially you BrightSkyFarm for mentioning my dad and my Seabiscuit song as well
Cheers!

Equicizer

Hi there! I have an Equicizer and I love it. As odd as it may sound, I do dressage (up through 3rd level schooling), jumping and I also gallop race horses. I also teach riding. It’s a great tool for staying in shape for galloping, strengthening the core and quads and glutes, as well as all of the back muscles, when ridden in galloping position. Great for core and legs for general riding, and fantastic for teaching, especially beginners - how to follow the motion of the horse with the hands and to use the seat effectively. It’s a little difficult to replicate posting to the trot as the Equicizer horse moves longitudinally but not laterally so can’t duplicate the diagonal movement of the horses’ legs (body), but it still is effective. As I said, I love mine. Use it daily.

Is it ever! We had two in college and even when I was actively galloping horses every day, I still got a workout from those bad boys. I would definitely reccommend one to anyone that wants a killer workout to get in riding shape.

Wow - Frank Lovato, Jr., how very cool. Thanks Mr. Lovato, for stopping in & we are honored. You were a great jockey !

Great, great invention !

Sonoma

Hello Frankie. I don’t know you personally, but thank you for inventing and designing such a cool training tool!

Wow!! What an amazing thread and so many nice people, thank you all so much! Yeah, the Equicizer was my baby and has come so far since the idea was for myself to rehab back to riding strength.

You all have been so super nice. Please let me know if you ever have any more questions about the Equicizer or racing. If you are really into the racing thing, I created a site just for racing called Jockey World JockeyWorld.net

Have an awesome day everyone!!
Frankie Lovato Jr

Thanks Mr. L,

I put jockeyworld in my bookmarks & listened to some audio clip there. I’m a big believer in off the horse work for real time improvement, as it seems you are (things like your equicizer, sports psychology, etc.)

I need an equicizer that can simulate a horse jumping a fence (hunter/jumper rider, here, also). That sounds much harder and more expensive to make, though.

Good karma back to you and please do drop in sometimes.

Sonoma

I wouldn’t sing any praise to Lovato Sr or his wife Pat.

Hopefully there is a disconnect between Jr and Sr…

being that Sr and Pat haven’t paid a $62k board bill.

Being able to have a string stuck at Penn is only due to the fact that they don’t pay their bills everywhere else. Which is also why they are parked at Penn and have not set foot in Delaware in years.

Equicizer

Thank you Sonoma, Yeah, there are may variations we plan to create with the Equicizer mechanically, it was be very expensive though and also increase in liabilities. Just keeping it simple and effective as possible for now but will never stop enhancing the experience  Thank you!
Frankie

I rode an equicizer once, for about two minutes, and couldn’t go up and down stairs properly for several days. I SO want one someday!

Frankie how is popcorn pony?

I must say that it has always been on my list of things I wanted. Due to some horrific riding injuries (and a nerological illness) that I have come back from I would love to get one for my off season ie -30 it gets here time so that I don’t struggle with gaining the riding muscle back. Now if only I could find a used G2! Or just get my insurance to help pay for it

But seriously, my father looked at it when I showed it to him when they first came out and thought it was the greatest invention in the world. Said he would have killed to have had one when he was working for his father training flat racers as it would have made it a lot easier to keep up with galloping muslces during the couple months he wasn’t riding and training.

I seriously want one of those.

I seriously want one of those.

I seriously want one of those!

Does anybody know just how far out of my reach they are? (How much money?)

Prices are on the website. I think the basic model is around $2,100, but not positive.
