The Horse In The Gray Flannel Suit

I LOVED the movie The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit - when I was a kid I rented it weekly from the video store - several years later my mom bought me the DVD as a gift for xmas haha. I think its a great heart warming story

I love this movie! I have it on DVD and it brings back wonderful childhood memories for me everytime I watch it!

Yup and as it is shown on the hallmark channel would you expect different?
In the story and movie’s defense, it is fun to watch and didn’t send the uber sensitive DS out of the room.

Some of it was filmed at the Flintridge Riding Club. The junior members worked as extras in the film and used their proceeds to add a lounge for juniors on to the clubhouse. There are stills from the film hanging on the clubhouse walls. They are really proud of their association with that film over at Flintridge, as they should be.

And there’s always a gray horse called Aspercel competing somewhere in the world.

What a hilarious movie… “Spread your teeth!”

My favorite will always be the scene where Aspie runs away with Dean Jones. The person who did all that riding was sure terrific.

And rumor has it that he told the film people that they were only going to get the horse to jump into the greenhouse one time so they’d better get it right on the first take.

Best movie ever. I have been known to take it to shows and watch it on a laptop when camping out in the tack stall. BLISS.

We regularly say things to our horses like, “Come on [insert name here], COMMUNICATE.”

And—

“And be SURE that the STALLS are CLOSED!”

And—

“Is [insert name here] going to jump over ALL those STICKS?”

And—

(especially great when cutting someone off in the middle of an emphatic point), “I like you, SJ.”

And we’ve also been known to sing the Aspercel songs—and by songs plural I mean the “When you’re sick it’ll make you well” song AND the “I said a-reach, a-reach brothaaaaa, a-reach fo’ Aspercellll”

Yeah. We’re obsessed with that movie. And sometimes we refer to a good looking male rider/trainer as “A real Archer Madison type.” Hehehe.

I don’t know how anyone can’t LOFF this movie!

Lex - its a 1960’s Disney movie… which = gee golly gee
Aside from loving the convertible MG pulling horse trailer and loving apparently the first RV horse trailer (bar + TV set up)
What about the crazy show coats??

I don’t think Kathy Kushner was the rider - my former trainer was a horse movie trivia fanatic… will check w/ her she also knows who the horse was which was also a famous horse - Like Snowman or something… will post back[/QUOTE]

It IS Kathy Kusner on Alberali. She became my hero
Snowman was much lighter, by the way, and was Bill Stenkraus’s ride of course. Alberali was Kathy’s ride, and if you look closely, she is riding him bitless, even thought the horse the actress rides is in a snaffle.

Wasn’t Snowman owned and ridden by Harry DeLeyer?

I believe the author was actually a horse show judge.

I finally read the book just a couple of years ago. I was pretty underwhelmed by it.

I thought the dad was much nicer in the movie version.

Me too!

Love this movie

Is the book “The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit” the same inside as “Horse of the Year”, just rebranded after the movie came out?

Of COURSE he was nicer after Disney got hold of it.

Actually, I think is the same a s “The Year of the Horse”

Yeah, I can never remember which title is actually correct! Thanks!

I never cared that much for the movie itself, but I love the stunt work cross country when Aspie bolts.
