All of mine stop from anything less than a big canter if I crinkle a mint wrapper
I use clicker training to get rid of an unwanted behavior, but I’ve wondered how people use clicker training for riding from the saddle. If anyone has used it successfully, I’m all ears.
My trainer is against giving treats, but she doesn’t mind what I do unless I go over board with something.
A lady at my boarding facility is like this. At some point she has accused all of us of abusing her horse. She is into “consent training,” which I am still trying to rap my head around because it doesn’t make sense.
I am open to a lot of strange training modalities, but “consent training” doesn’t make much sense to me.
have a friend like that - her horse is a sketchy loader at best, went to a trail ride and he wouldn’t “consent” to get back on the trailer to go home. Her friends finally put a bum rope on him and stuffed him on so they could all go home. She was quite distraught about forcing him on, had no response when I pointed out that trailering really can’t be negotiable in their minds cause they don’t know if you are loading them to take the to a show or loading them to evacuate from a wildfire that’s about to burn the farm to a crisp. Empathy for the horse is a good thing but a horse doesn’t have the knowledge to “consent” to many things we need them to do.
I use a “clock” sound with my mouth. I don’t do a lot of clicker stuff bit it’s kind of fun.
