Goldikova!
Need I say more?
Goldikova!
Need I say more?
A great, great mare. She’s danced every dance at the top of the game.
I love the connections as well. Miesque was my #1 favorite for a long, long time, so it does my heart good to see Freddie Head succeeding with Goldi.
With respect, Zenyatta just capped of three years of racing during which she won the Ladies Classic, won the Breeder’s Cup Classic, and finished 2nd by a nose in the Breeder’s Cup Classic. Two great mares made history today. But Goldikova was the best horse at Churchill Downs!
She is a SUPERSTAR! She has done it all at the top of the game. It’s a shame she is not well known here in Europe she is there Zenyatta!
Goldikova the Great
Goldikova has proven herself as one of the best racemares in history…against colts and fillies. Three Breeder’s Cups is unprecedented and it will be a long while until we see that again. What a shame that this incredible achievement was sort of glossed over in the Zenyatta frenzy. I loved the shot of her lad running down the dirt track egging her on. Beautiful.
As for Zenyatta, what a lovely mare, and I was hoping against hope that she would make it. Gallant in defeat.
Maybe Z has a better press agent:lol:?
And of Goldikova was not a small, businesslike plain old bay who never danced her way to the post? As opposed to a Hollywood owned and based, spectacularly large, striking looking and bursting with personality Queen Z?
Maybe the headlines would be different.
And, ya’know, the way some were acting after the Classic? If you tuned in late and just missed the race? you’d have thought Z was laying dead on the track and not just lost by a hair beating all but one of the best males running today in a one of the absolute best stretch battles since Affirmed and Alydar or Sunday Silence and Easy Goer.
Nobody needs to hang their heads over losing that one.
Goldikova was amazing! Are they retiring her or will she be back?

They have not released there plans yet. I hope to see this great mare again. Maybe making history with 4 BC wins in a row!!!
Yes, I really enjoy following her races. Even though they are usually not in English. She has such grit they are always thrilling.
She should be Horse of the Year.
It’s official! Goldi is staying in training!!!
TDN News Alert:
Fresh from a third straight victory in the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile, owners Alain and Gerard Wertheimer have confirmed the news the whole of turfdom has been waiting hear–Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa) will remain in training next year.
Here is a horse who really does have nothing left to prove –
21-15-3-2, $6,154,157
12 G1 wins (European record), 8 in open company; 3 BC wins (also a record) –

No kidding. Of course they breed to race their own stock, so it’s not as if they’re looking to pop as many foals out if her as they can for the commercial market.
Does anyone know (for sure) how tall Goldikova is? She always looks small to me…I would guess no more than 15.2. If anyone knows of an official height for her, please let me know.
I have tried to Google it, but haven’t been able to find anything definite.

I’d like to know, too. She looks about my mare’s height (15.1 or 15.2), also by Northern Dancer…
Great little mare and she is Horse of the Year in Europe. I thought they were retiring her after the Breeders Cup. I wish they had. I just don’t want her to get hurt!
