OK so I got my old Mac’s size 6 in. I also got the pastern wraps to protect for rubs. Remember this is the pigeoned toed horse with round feet. I put them on the horse. Kinda hard to tell if it’s too small?? I put it on the back hoof, no too big I thought??? So I go back to the front foot, reinstall not easy to get on, but not the hardest thing either. I get them adjusted looks OK. I have him in a small pen while he eats his dinner. I’ll just let him wear them a few hours in a controlled situation. I come back out he’s just standing there. I take the first boot off. The bottom of the boot is cracked clear through is several places.:eek: :eek: :eek: OK so I move on to the second boot, which i notice that it has twisted on his foot, not a good sign. That boot is also cracked in several places.
. So are his feet just too weird to do boots or are they too small. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks …
I own 2 pairs of Old Mac’s G2’s that I’ve been using for 2 years with no problems except having to have the shoe repair man replace the leather on the buckles. (2 years of riding through mud, water, rocks and sand finally took it’s toll on the leather) Does your horse have steel shoes on? I can’t imagine that they would just fall apart like that? If it twisted on his foot then the sizing is wrong. You should be able to put in on and feel the foot go in snug (like you are putting your own foot into a boot, y’know that soft pop you get when your foot goes in) Grab the boot and try to twist it, it shouldn’t twist more than just a tiny bit. I don’t use the pastern wraps I use the gaiters, I just like them better and I think they keep more debris out of the boot. My horse loves them and since he is a big sis we don’t ride without them anymore. He can go barefoot in his pasture but when riding he gets his Old Mac’s G2’s.
Where did you buy them? Maybe they were old. Did you get the original Old Mac’s or the G2?
Well maybe they are too big? He doesn’t have shoes on!! I didn’t feel a pop when i put them on. I peeled the velcro back and it looked like the hoof was in the hard rubber part of the boot. I will go put them back on and see if I can twist them. thanks
OK so I am a cheap skate, I bought this at a clearance outlet on the Internet. I will check with Easy-boot to see if they can tell me if this was a defective batch. I didn’t realize you could get a gator for these the original old mac boots. Well the learning curve is pretty steep right now!!!
I have NEVER had any problem with Old Mac’s. Of all the boots, they are the heavy duty “work horses” and if any boot is going to fall apart or come off, it WON’T be the Old Mac’s.
Contact EasyCare customer service and let them know what happened. They will refund your money or replace your boots free of charge under warranty.
Edited to add: Just saw that you bought this at a clerance outlet. It’s very possible that whoever owned the boots kept them stored in a very hot location for an extended period, and the polymer broke down. Either way, contact Easycare and let them know what happened. I have never heard of a “defective batch” because every boot that comes in is stringently quality tested and checked. My guess is that this cheap outlet place probably improperly stored the boots. Just like ANY piece of equipment, they need to be maintained and cared for properly if they are expected to last.
Being too big has nothing to do with it. If the soles cracked all the way through, then the polymer was broken down for some reason. I’ve had to improvise with OMs that were too big on horses before, until I could get a new set of boots in that DID fit properly, and never had any problems.

I agree. That was my first thought…that they were old and the polymer (or plastic) broke down. Has to be! There is no way that those boots should have broken apart like that. BTW the gaiters aren’t to hold the boots on better, necessarily. They have a thin hard plastic sole piece that slips inside the boot. The attached neoprene then velcroes around the pastern, keeping the edges of boots from rubbing and keeping most debris out of the boot.
See if Easy Care will honor the warranty even though you purchased from a questionable vendor. WWW.easycareinc.com. I’d be very interested in what they have to say about this.
I called EasyCare they are going to replace the boots.
They like you had never heard or seen that before. I am going to ship the boots back and they will let me know what they find. You guy are GREAT!!! I will keep you posted.

I’ve used both original OM’s and G2’s without problems. Have also ordered them for very large horses (Friesians) who use them without a problem. I’d also guess the plastic had deteriorated in some way.
I received my size 6 Original Old Mac boots in the mail today. I ordered them off of an Ebay store. The Originals are the only boots I can find that have the proper size for my horse. I tried them on her and she moved well with them on the lunge line, no stumbling. But after only 5-10 minutes the sole on one boot fell to pieces and the other one cracked and started to tear apart as well. They were brand new in the packaging. I’ve e-mailed the Ebay store and will be trying to get my money back. I’m disappointed as they seemed to fit her so well. I heard these boots are no longer being made. This pair (and it sounds like some others here) must have been overheated or a defective batch. I’ve heard so many good things about them I was really surprised and disappointed. I hope I can get my money back. I have pictures but not sure how to post them here.

Call easycare as the OP did. They do have a warranty and will probably honor it as they did for the OP.
