When I was a kid, Mrs. DuPonts ponies dominated everything- both in breeding classes, and as performance ponies. Stallions like Shalbourne Pendragon, and Liseter Brilliant Flyer, and more, were on the papers of a bunch of winning hunter ponies. Where did these bloodlines end up? I know that John did some truly awful things, and there have been some horrid rumors, but I am wondering where the bloodlines- too wonderful to lose- might have ended up.

I have a grand older broodmare here by Liseter Cadet. She had an extensive rated show record back in her day.
She gave me a wonderful black colt by my stallion last year.

which is fascinating, by the way- a great read. In any event, what happened to the 91 ponies? Obviously, Clardy’s got the one stud, and his dam, but where did the rest go? How about the other wonderful stallions she had, at that time?
Does anyone know the history of Shalbourne Pendragon? I had a pony, at one time, who was allegedly from his last crop. Who knows- but he was a great pony!

I purchased a gelding sired by this stallion. Very nice.
We have a Sec A welsh, 13 years old that we have bred a couple of times. SHe is just wonderful, great lead line pony, but too hot for the smallest kids and now mine are too tall for her :lol: but she will never leave! we have had her for 12 years and will probably have her 12 more, :eek:
I suspect a lot ended up random places. My childhood riding instructor’s neighbor had bought a mare in foal, threw them in the backyard, and barely touched them. She wouldn’t sell them, though.
My 4-H club had an ancient mare names Liseter Flashing Smiles on trial but didn’t keep her because we determined she wasn’t actually broken to ride. I still wish I bought her, she was $500 and “between 30 and death” according to the vet. Oddly she recently showed up on pedigree query. I’d love to know who entered her and how they knew her.
The bloodlines went all over the USA. There was a breeder here in WA state who owned a number of ponies with the Liseter bloodline. He just bred them to random ponies, mostly to a hankney pony stallion that he owned, so the bloodlines were lost. Such a shame, becasue they were pretty ponies. I owned a few ponies with the lines, loved them.
Mrs. duPont was a lovely lady who fox-hunted side saddle, had her own pack of beagles, drove her ponies in competition and for many years Maryanne Stiert and Debbie Buchannan took the ponies on the road, Gold Coin and Goldilocks to name two.
Dean Noonkester ran the farm for years.
Mrs.duPont’s house was wall to wall with ribbons and trophies.
When she died there wasn’t anyone who wanted to take on the farm, and her will required that all the ponies be sold.

When he went through the auction he was unbroken with very little handling. She trained him and he went on to show quite successfully on the Welsh circuit- I believe he was either AHSA National or Reserve National Welsh Pleasure Pony. He had a tremendously neat personality!
Sadly, he passed away last year or the year before (I loose track of time).
My show pony, Orphan Annie, was a daughter of Liseter Goldilocks by Liseter Brilliant Animation. After I outgrew Annie, my mother bred her. Annie was a beautiful pony, but was 12.3 5/8 hands – about the same size as Goldilocks. Unfortunately, while Goldilocks was a perfect size when the Small Pony cut off was 13.0, Annie’s size was a liability and we never broke her green.
Back when I was showing Annie, everyone said she was a carbon copy of Liseter Goldilocks. We were very lucky to have Annie and her babies and grand babies are all lovely.

I couldn’t recall where I had heard your boy’s name before… so I just went through your site… and saw Miracle Maid of Lace, one of his daughters.

Oh, that beautiful farm. I remember it so well from when I was growing up. All those lovely ponies. And Dr. Phyllis Lose’s place right next door.
