The Short (and Wide) Bus Rides Out With the Beagles

Mr. Blondie is hors de combat with an MLOU (Mysterious Lameness of Unknown Origin), so our huntsman has very generously been letting me ride Orion the Wonder Haffie (whom some of you might remember from other hunts).

Yesterday, The Short Bus had a “Fullinger” as my friend Mary brought out another Haflinger to ride with us. Alas, Ms. Cayanna was not pleased about hunting, even on the sedate Short Bus, and after about an hour of sweaty jigging and head-tossing, they packed it in. But we had some great photo ops before setting out

(And yes, Cayanna’s mane really is that long.)

Serious single dreadlock mane and I bet it is beautiful unbraided!!! The “Fullingers” look terrific and hope the hour out hunting recharged you!!

Orion the Wonder Haffie and I stayed out the full time - Mary & Cayanna the Misbehaving Haffie went back in

It was a nice day to be out & about. A little warm (we hit the low 80s later in the day), but nice nonetheless.

The mane is beautiful when it’s down.

What does Cayanna do when she isn’t hunting? It looks like a costume in the pic with her mane down. Society for Creative Anachronisms, or (the Medieval Ages the way we wish it was)?

I was wondering what that mane looked like down!

I wish I’d brought my phone out to snap pictures yesterday, although I was already task overloaded, trying to stay on my bucking bronco. My brother rode Silky, my 18 year old broodmare, who came out of retirement about 6 weeks ago. She literally hasn’t been ridden in ten years! They rode up in first flight (mainly because my horse would have a stroke if I tried to hilltop and I didn’t want to send my brother back without me supervising), and did a fantastic job. I’m thinking of cloning that mare. She is truly amazing. First hunt for her and my brother. She’s a WP show horse and took to the field like a duck to water! Went over ditches, washes and even the scary gate thing at the parking lot that they had to step over. Never even gave anything a second look. Was a total packer. Jumped some bigger ditches and small banks. My brother was smiling from ear to ear. Oh, and my brother just started riding a few months ago, this is his tenth time in the English saddle.
White medicine hat 18 year old broodmare. Priceless!

With hair like that it’s a wonder her name isn’t Rapunzel!

Hope Mr. Blondie is 100% soon.

Cayanna is a therapy horse at Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship (www.camelotaz.org)

She drives & goes under saddle.

MUCH better behaved than she was yesterday. It was a shock to see her jigging. We didn’t think she had it in her!

The photo with her mane down was taken at Camelot’s “Hooves & Heroes” fundraiser last April. She was in costume.

Tracy - who was the little girl with you yesterday?

And yes, Silky was amazing.

My step grand-daughter, Adara. She’s absolutely horse and dog crazy. Will hopefully have her hilltopping by next year. Wish I could afford to keep a nice pony for her but already have 4 mouths to feed.
Thanks for the compliment on Silky. She is my favorite horse in the whole world!

Adara seems like a nice kid. I bet she would love hill-topping. Susie’s granddaughter is also eager to hunt.

She’s welcome on The Short Bus with us any time - but I don’t make every hunt, so you should check first, to make sure she doesn’t get left behind in the parking lot (because we know what Arnold would think of hill-topping )

Yes, Arnold would stick up his middle hoof. Then he would die of a stroke. Then we would all be haunted by his ghost for eternity. He’s already disgusted that he’s had to sink as low as hunting dwarf hounds as it is! He wants to know when he’s going real hunting again? Not to mention I’ve been making him, gasp, trail ride. At a a walk and trot, gasp. He may be going on a hunger strike soon, Silky whispered to me. She wasn’t supposed to tell me but she thought I should know.
Once I get Adara trail riding I’ll bring her out and we can ride the Sly and Silky on the short bus. PM me your email and phone sometime when you get a chance.
