Does anybody have any experience boarding here? Experiences? Ratings? PM if you don’t want to post on here.
I’m new to this area and trying to find a good barn. This seems like a nice place but want some references.

My family is from SSI. I don’t know of anyone boarding there nor have myself. However any time we have popped in to just look around it has been clean, the horses all look well cared for, whoever was giving lessons sounded knowledgable and the riders riding safely. Horses in the paddocks seemed content and well feed. Stalls all seemed very well bedded and clean with nice clean water buckets. I was looking at how things were as I would LOVE to bring my two down there over the summer and just stay with my kids at my families house for a month. I can’t be away from my horses for a month. They also have a few low level xc fences there as well.

My husband’s family has a house on Sea Island and we have always visited the stables. Last year the Sea Island Company that built and owned the new stables sold the property and business to a private company. I am assuming you mean the new stables at the end of Frederica Road where the traffic circle is.
The barns are beautiful - big and well kept. Last summer my daughter took a lesson with the new trainer - and she is an eventer who trained under KOC and DOC (you can see a photo album in the office with pictures of her experiences). Her mare is now retired and has been bred. I get the feeling she is without a horse right now but is trying to get the business going. When SIC owned it, few if any boarders were allowed, and only SIC members could ride there (and membership is very expensive!) - so I am sure locals are thrilled to be able to return now that they can do so. The only problem is a lack of a covered or indoor arena - as you know, summers are the extreme weather in the south (just as winters are in the north) - and so you will need to ride early to avoid the brutal heat…

My boyfriend and I sold them our matched pair of black and white percheron/paint mares. I believe they called my girl Pinot (I called her Peanut) and they call our other mare either Chardonnay or Champagne (I can never remember, we called her Onyx). If you decided to board there, or if anyone else has been there and knows my girls, I’d love to hear from you!
Wait till you ride on the beach at Sea Island. It is great.
I used to ride at the old Sea Island Stables which was right there at the causeway. They took good care of their horses.
Sea Island Company went under last year. The creditors allowed a sale without it going into foreclosure. I don’t know how the “new” Sea Island will fare. There are 58 houses for sale on Sea Island! Unbelieveable for an enclave where people used to treasure their “cottages.”
That’s about the only stable in the entire area. So give it a try. There’s a saddlebred barn at Midway and of course barns in Jax.
There have been huge changes in personnel there in the last few months. The eventing trainer is no longer there (actually, two have been through there in the last year). They are down to 4 boarders and I understand the current owner/manager can be difficult to work with.
There are other stables in the area. Cannon’s Point on SSI has re-opened. There are also a couple of nice, well run stables in the western part of the county. The facilities aren’t as fancy as Frederica but the care is good.
One of them even has an indoor arena.

I have seen your girls but never “met” them. They looked great! May daughter met them and couldn’t stop talking about how sweet they are.
Cannon Point used to be good way back when i was riding down there.
Worth checking out. Sea island financials are very unstable now. I hope all the horses are safe if things go under again.
Thanks for letting me know! Every so often I visit their website and see if there are any pics of them. They are so sweet. I sold Peanut right before she turned 3 so I bet she has gotten a lot bigger! I emailed Karl, the owner, a few weeks ago and he said he would send me pics, but I think he forgot. Maybe I’ll just go visit and take a beach ride on her one day!

Chardonnay and Pinot are doing great. I saw them today at turn out

sorry i just replied… it is a beautiful facility ,but when i took lessons, the manager, Karl, my mom said was hard to work with and she would give him a check for the lessons he would cash it in then say my mom never gave him money. overall the other girls were very sweet, just beware of the manager. my friend said she experienced under feeding sadly it was $50 dollars for an extra flake, and the didn’t put blankets on without them paying extra money. (it might of change in the last few months, she moved to a barn 45 minutes away) hoped this might of helped anyone!

) the care and service is lacking. There are other place around to go that have experienced people and knowledge. BUT BEWARE! IF you would like more information I would be happy to help.

Just to update this thread the Stables at Frederica went under new management in 2016. While we are mostly full, we usually have 2-4 spots open for boarders. We specialize in commercial trail rides, operate the first USHJA Recognized Riding Academy in Georgia, keep all instructors and manager SafeSport certified, and compete at USHJA, USDF, IEA, and local shows throughout the year. Good for you. I miss the old days when the owner of BennY’s Red Barn would have his waitresses take me on trail rides to Sea Island beach while the rest of the court family got bombed. And the Sunday rides from Sea Island Stable to the cookouts on Sea Island beach were great. If I lived down there I’d board with you. Keep the barn going up where you are. I never rode out of Cannon Point. You are about the last place left for horses around there
