The trials of second horse shopping

So I finally get the go-ahead from DH to purchase 2nd hunt horse. Fine. Pretty decent budget, good so far. Go to the usual websites. Now I’m discouraged. I’m 5’4", first horse is 16.1 draft cross. Can I find another one? Noooooo, all I find in the packer/husband/guest horse catagory are B I G, advertised as draft crosses. I guess they are if what they mean is my draft mare was crossed with another draft, even bigger than she is!

Then there are the will be a packer after you’ve hunted him ten years “prospects” that haven’t even been backed yet.

I found some nice mules though that met my criteria except for species.

Sigh.

Have you looked here?

sure you can find some others there too.

2ndyrgal,
not sure what your specific criteria is, but i do know of a nice horse in maryland. feel free to pm me for details and tell me your requirements.
ps, i have no interests/connections to this horse except that i like him, he has hunted and i think his asking price is reasonable!

PM’d you back!

not my horse, but saw her at Poplar Place jumping BN stuff several weeks ago.

All your suggestions were lovely

and I looked.

But I need an absolute PACKER for hubby and sis.

Dead made, kicking quiet.

Under 17 hands.

There is a super horse listed in the classifieds of the Chronicle that I would LOVE to buy!

Here is the link to the ad, his name is “It’s Ted”

He sounds like a DREAMHORSE to me!

Hunter’s Rest has terrific packers, which she does sell. She consistently finds and makes them for the novice foxhunters as well as those riders who are more advanced. One of my favorites, who isn’t for sale, is a retired police horse. Extraordinarily boom proof, probably literally…

Your link to the COTH classifieds doesn’t work, and yes, I cut and pasted the entire link, not just clicking on the partial link highlighted…

Link worked for me. No copy and pasting necessary. Just clicked.

Your post doesn’t say it has to be currently hunting now but I’m assuming so…in case you will take a chance on a nice draft cross, here is a nice one. Good Fortune 15.3h, not hunted yet, but she’s very bold out cross country: http://allforitfarm.com/Allforit_Farm/For_Sale.html

Somebody on FOL just listed a hilltopper horse. Not sure if it’d be suitable, but you might want to read the listing.

I don’t know these folks but I love their philosophy and they have some very nice horses…

Good luck!!
I hope this helps.

Super quiet for the most timid rider. 15.3+ hand paint mare 13 years old. Great in the ring and on trails. Fox hunted extensively. No spook. kind and gentle. No vices

Found him!!

And he hunts!

Keep us posted! You have a wonderful DH. Can’t wait to meet him out hunting with us.

It just proves how small the hunting world is

As the owner of the horse said “you can’t sell a horse far enough away if it’s not what you say it is”.

True enough.

I think he’ll be wonderful for my DH. I already have horseless hunters lined up to ride when DH doesn’t and he’s not even here yet!

It’s going to be a good summer.

Where?!

Might I ask where you found him? I have been looking for ages for a quiet, sane, and sound horse… I’d love to see if the seller has any others! Please PM me!

Thanks!!!
