Just before the little bump WoW wasn’t paying attention to the job. He was looking to the side.
Tacitus ran a lot greener than I expected today. War of Will didn’t seem like he was going to make the distance without the bump. Didn’t expect the winner at all. Anyone know anything about him?

Derby winner, Country House, is taking the rest of the year off to fully recover from an infection According to trainer, Bill Mott, he will be back to race at 4 next year.
MS just ran second in the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth. King for a Day won. Max had the lead most of the way and then was passed in the stretch.
I was watching on TwinSpires, and I thought before the race that he didn’t look as good to me as he did in the post parade at the Derby. He did look a little light and also had white lather between his hind legs before the race. I was trying to see if the others did, too (just a hot day?), but the camera angles weren’t cooperating. The two I did see from behind clearly enough loading didn’t have white lather like Max.
Maybe he just needed the race, but he didn’t quite look like his Derby self to me, and that’s not a comment on the interference. I did, by the way, think he was the best horse on the day at the Derby, though he broke the rules and I agreed with the DQ. I have nothing against Max. I disagree with his owners’ actions since then, but that’s not against the horse.
I did have to roll my eyes reading a comment by Servis a few days ago that he was worried about running three races in 60-some days (68 or 69, I think) and how that was a lot. I’m currently reading the new Edward Bowen book on the 13 TC winners. Plenty of those trainers didn’t seem to think 3 races in 68/9 days would have been a lot.
There was a whole lot different “ back then” (before the last 5 TC winners) including veterinary knowledge, foreign substance rules and attitudes in general towards horse welfare. No cell phones or social media to expose what went on out of the spotlight either. Those old boys could be pretty rough and there was nobody watching.
I’ll stick with Servis and his decisions for horses entrusted to him.

So apparently after the Belmont, the NY stewards got a call claims foul on Sir Winston. They asked who it was, and the person identified himself as WOW’s owner. They then called Mark Casse, who said he was standing right next to the owners of WOW and no one was claiming foul. Turns out it was a disgruntled bettor.
You’d think they would have known that was a prank call without having to check.
Did the caller also ask if they had Sir Walter Raleigh in a can? :lol:
