The very interesting Hackney Horse

Yep! I’ve been there with Rodger’s owner to look at Hackneys!

Even though (IIRC) Rodger was not specifically from Fresno’s program, his sire, Koopman’s Frans Haven, stood at Fresno for good while.

On those links, Rodger makes quite a few appearances. On the first link, he’s the second picture and was 3-5 years old at the time. On the second link, he’s the left driving photo under the “Hackneys are Versatile”. Rodger’s sire is the right photo. Rodger is also at the bottom of the page.

While I was at Fresno, I got to see some of the younger horses move. And they all could move! I really remember Koopman’s Rumba, the ground shook when he trotted but you never got the feeling he was a clunker. It was just pure power!

I have a swedish wb/hackney/clyde cross that is doing very well in dressage and another 2 yr old han/hackney clyde filly

here are a couple pics -both are 1/4 hackney - and their mother was by a very famous hackney stallion - Shady Maple Alpha Centauri

There is a Hackney breeding program st Fresno State http://www.fresnostatehorses.com/hackney%20mares.htm

That is the program Rodger (Koopman’s Lightning Rod), the horse Dancing Appy linked a video to, came from.

Maybe I’m not remembering correctly, but I remember Rodger’s owner saying that Rodger himself did not come from CSU Fresno. That she bought him before Frans made his way to CSU.

Either way, I think we can agree what a fantastic horse he is!

We sure can!

The horse Rumba on the Fresno State page is owned by a gal in Northern CA and she does some riding and driving stuff with him. Nice horse, but I remember him as being a bit bigger than Rodger.
