The Whitney

Anyone watch the Whitney at Saratoga yesterday? Bill Mott finally won a Whitney with a first-time stakes runner, Arthur’s Ride. AR looked great, and so much like his dad, Tapit.

On the gallop out, AR spooked and dumped Junior Alvarado who stayed on his feet, hung onto the reins while running alongside the horse, and did not let the him get loose. Almost was able to get back on by himself, a small boost from the outrider. Jockeys are such athletes!

That was a good race. Arthur’s Ride looked great and Crupi was impressive for second.

That was amazing. I would have hit the ground and fallen flat on my face. For sure you don’t want the winner loose on the track.

My heart was in my throat when Alvarado’s feet hit the ground. Did not realize he had been dumped, thought he had jumped off. A jockey will jump off if the horse is badly hurt and they don’t want them running on an injury and making it worse. But AR was moving fine…
