Therapeutic blankets

What is your favorite therapy blanket and why ?

Looking for something for my UL event horse so I don’t have to have a massage therapist come out as often.

I’m thinking more along the lines of PEMF or a massage type. Not back on track or magnetic blankets.

(Also, my horse does not respond to BEMER…so that’s a no go)

Thanks!!!

I’m sorry to learn your horse doesn’t respond to bemer. I use mine every day on high.

I have an Activo-Med Combi Pro I that I bought refurbished, and I like the massage and PEMF combo. I’ve had good results with several horses. My young horse will not allow body work, but seems to enjoy the blanket. It’s actually been a big help in getting her to stand quietly in the crossties. They are similar to a Bemer though, so it may be worth finding one to rent or borrow to see if you like it.

What’s your criteria for not responding to the Bemer? Not every horse will show behavioural changes during a Bemer session.

My horses enjoyed the Horseware? Sports Vibe massage blanket and neck.

She loves the PEMF machines so I’m hoping she’d feel the same way about the blanket

There were no behavioral or performance improvements.

Tried it on myself and feel nothing as well, during or after :woman_shrugging:t3:

There’s not a ton of PEMF blankets out there and you eliminated the most popular/ common one. Seems you are looking for an Activomed or Sportd Innovations blanket.

Both the horses and I enjoy the Bemer set. I don’t feel much of anything when it is on but certainly notice a difference after (and the horses respond to it).

IMO the massage blankets can’t do much of anything to make them worth the price - horse muscles are incredible thick/ dense and the only pressure the massage blankets can give is their own weight (vs a human giving the horse a massage and can do varying pressure). YMMV though.

The Bemer effects can be very subtle, and come from long term, regular use. It was a worthwhile investment for me.

But if you want the massage type, do try to get a Sports Vibe session to see if your horse likes it. My younger horse would actively shift his posture to get the massage strip working where he wanted. The blanket wasn’t cumbersome and the massage strips were easy to use and move from one area to another.

@Moshposh, I have a fair bit of pain all the time. I bought a people bemer when they were on sale. I swear by it for my horse. I honestly don’t have the level of pain I used to have. I feel nothing when I lay on it, but I’m not in tears when I go in after late night chores any more. And no, I don’t work for bemer.

I have an Activomed Combi that has the massage and PEMF options…I bought it as a refurbished one. It’s awesome…both horses love it. I’ve used it when they’ve seemed tight through the back and it seems to help quite a bit. One of the few therapeutic devices that I will keep and continue to use.

I have a SportsInnovation blanket that I bought used a few years ago. Works great.

Thank you! But I’m looking for quick ice wraps . I have Jack whirlpool boots but looking for something for everyday use

Oops wrong thread of mine! Thanks for your input

Where did you get it?

@Moshposh, I don’t know where this really goes. I have the ice packs that are about 12 inches long, are segmented, and very flexible. I use those w a standing wrap or vet wrap- one on each side of the leg.

They were great to work with…I’ve now had the secondhand one for several years and it’s working great. I even contacted the company once as I wanted to add some customized settings and they walked me through how to do that. I did have to buy a new charging cable this year, but that was something easy to find on Amazon for $10.

I have the IceVibe boots that have a massage function for daily use. My horse really likes them post-work. I put them on as I do his final groom/reblanket/sometimes Bemer session.

That’s also where I got mine, and I agree that they were great to work with. They have some really affordable options, so that’s helpful.
