Things to do in Blacksburg VA

I have to haul my mare from Northern VA to Blacksburg VA next Sunday Dec 28 for an MRI at VA Tech. I’ll be stuck there for maybe 2 days with my dog and nothing to do while they are running their tests. Any suggestions? Sight seeing opportunities, tack shops etc?

Good time to be in Blacksburg since the students are gone! There are lots of fantastic restaurants downtown and since the students are gone, you’ll actually be able to park close by and not have a wait. If you like hiking, there are a few great places pretty close by. There are several wineries around too that are great. Sadly, notack shops unless you count southern states and tractor supply. Winter isn’t the best time to visit the NRVsince a lot of the attractions are outdoors (the river, hiking, etc) but if you bundle up, pandapas pond is nice for walking with your dog or the huckleberry trail, cascades hike is great, or head up to Mountain Lake if you’d like to see where Dirty Dancing was filmed. If you take some of the side trails at Panpapas, you can let your dog off leash; just watch out for bikers! Walking around campus is nice too if the weather is nice. Macafee’s knob is an awesome day hike with terrific views. You could also catch a movie at the Lyric downtown. So in summary, food, wine, and outdoor activities are the best attractions. Feel free to PM me if you’d like restaurant suggestions or directions to hikes or wineries!

I agree that Pandapas pond is a pretty place to walk. The Indian restaurant near VT used to be good, although I haven’t been to Blacksburg for several years.

Haven’t been for years but used to be a used book store and a few nice resale shops if that is up your alley.
