Thinking about magnetic boots or ice boots

What’s your experience with either of them? What brands do you prefer? Do you think they help? Noticed any differences?

Ice boots absolutely help. I have a pair of professional’s choice boots that cover from fetlock to knee/hock and j love them. A lot of my friends have the icevibes but they don’t seem to get the leg as cold.

I don’t think magnetic therapy has any real science behind it though.

It kind of depends what problem you are trying to “help” with.

I personally have never used magnetic therapy so I can’t speak for that, but I have full sets of the BOT quick wraps for both of my horses. They are excellent to either prevent legs from stocking up, or to help bring down swelling on a swollen leg. I’ve had a couple tried-and-true experiences myself that I guess you could say made me a believer. However, I do use them very sparingly (or not at all) when it is HOT outside.

I primarily use them on short trailer rides, and put them on my horses for about an hour before I ride. And as mentioned, as needed for any swelling issues that pop up.

I bought magnetic boots for my mare, when she was recovering - as in, no longer on stall rest, no healing wound, etc - from Splint bone surgery. I have no idea if they helped, but I bought a cheaper brand, and I figured they didn’t hurt.

I also don’t have experience with Magnetic boots.

I used ice boots to help my horse recover from suspensory injury, I believe it helped him greatly. Also, after races or training days.
I also have Back On Track Quick wraps, pillow wraps, and hock wraps I will use those prior to workouts or on trailer rides, also over night if the horse tends to stock up.

Has anyone tried light therapy boots/pads? Recently a Facebook ad has been popping up in my feed and it looks interesting. Was wondering if anyone has any experience. We have some no-name ice wraps at the barn I’ve used before that work just fine when I’ve encountered a puffy leg. My experience with magnetic wraps was about 20 years ago and I didn’t notice any improvement. But, the horse I was rehabbing probably was never going to be 100% sound.

Not sure how new it is, I’ve just seen ads popping up lately. The horse massage therapist I used about 15 years ago had an LED light cap that she put on the horses prior to starting her massage because she said it helped relax their poll. Like everything now days, the companies make it sound like it will fix everything. Here is the link to the one I’ve seen on FB (Disclaimer: I am not associated with this company nor have I tried their products). http://equinelighttherapy.com/why-light-therapy/

???

I’m trying to find a pair of great magnetic boots/ ice boots to reduce swelling and inflammation, for esp when we jump hard.

This is what we have at our barn. They are water based instead of chemical so they don’t get too cold. We just wrap them with a polo wrap. They are cheap at $19 for three. You can also use SMB boots to hold them on instead of polos.

Or a cheap tube sock that you cut the foot out of!

So unless your horse has acne or seasonal affect disorder, I am not sure what shining an LED on his legs is suppose to do?!

right, I just looked at those. I don’t understand how they’d help haha

I have ice horse boots and use them after every jumping session (show or at home). I use the tendon wraps and the big black boots.

I keep the packs in the freezer in the barn at home. At shows, I keep them with ice packs in a portable Yeti cooler. I don’t buy the “science” behind magnetic therapy but ice therapy works and has been proven, in horses and in humans. I believe the ice boots work

I guess I’m a bit old fashioned and like either cold hosing or ice. I love the Tough 1 Ice boots… I even use them on myself… they work the best and are reasonably priced.

I do like the Back On Track no bow wraps if you need to bandage with a bit of poltice for those hard days and windpuffs.

I also LOVE Magic Cushion… but that wasn’t asked here was it ? HA HA…

has anyone tried the ice vibe boots?

I have a fair few eventer friends who use the ice vibe boots and really like them. Personally, I prefer the BOT no bow wraps after a hard school and especially at the show overnight as my horse tends to stock up a little if she stabled more than normal. For me they are less effort and seem to do just a good a job. I haven’t used either for an acute injury, just as support at shows or after hard schools.
