Thinline half pads

I have the Trifecta sheepskin halfpad for my old man and, since we are in between saddles right now, it is a necessary part of his wardrobe. With it my saddle and the one his kid (who is leasing him) has fit him great.

When I find a saddle narrow enough to fit him I’ll switch to what I use on my other horse, which is the Contender II (it combines Back on Track with an Ultra Thinline). I have a couple of those in black for daily use and then a couple of white ones with his show name on for showing. Or, I’ll use my regular Thinline pad over a square pad.

I love Thinline stuff- it doesn’t interfere with saddle fit, the half pad and the squares have the Thinline divided on either side so there is nothing to bind under the pommel, and I think they help both my back and my horses’s backs.

I have the sheepskin on a cotton pad with the shims (one in the front pockets and two in the back). Honestly, I don’t notice a difference, and this horse seems to go just the same with or without it but it does give a nice padding and I think if I was a horse it would feel comfy.

At first I doubted whether it would wash as the sheepskin was not very dense, but it has been machine washed and air dried several times and come up like new. I do not put it directly against the horse, but put a baby pad in between.

I liked my thinline but I love my Ogilvy.

I ride every ride with a sheepskin pad with thinline shims - no full pad. I LOVE the little tweaks that are possible with the shims, and I’ve never met a horse to say no to the comforts of sheepskin. Another vote for it being silly to not take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of sheepskin.

An aside - I wash my thinline sheepskin by hand with eucalan and it’s held up like iron for… 8 years?

A friend has the Trifecta with Sheepskin. Recently after using sheepskin wash as advised by sales rep at the tack shop, the sheepskin fell off.
It took quite a bit of prompting and mm… firm communications to the company to get a replacement but they did replace it as they promise.

I have a Christ half pad with sheepskin rolls back and from with removable inserts. I find this half pad much nicer to ride in for both horse and myself. Thinline I noticed no difference. They run about the same price.

I ride with the Trifecta w/sheepskin rolls and my horse and I both love it.

I found it to have quite a bit of shock absorption. The very few times that I haven’t used it my back tends to be a bit sore afterwards.

I have had it coming 6 years now and it is JUST finally starting to show wear and tear at the front along where the sheepskin and the saddle pad material meets and I use it 4-5 times a week!

Glad this got bumped back up

After a recent wash, with directions provided by thinline (washing with baby shampoo), the sheepskin on the rolls of my pad has started disintegrating and there is a foul odor.

I sent an email to ThinLine, and they are mailing me a replacement pad. GREAT customer service. They are sending a sample of their sheepskin wash (website advises DO NOT use melp). I will handwash only from this point forward, and hopefully that eliminates any issues, but they were really great to work with.

I love my thinline pad, and I’m devestated that something spilled on it in my trunk and there is now a hardened spot that will not come out.

I rode my chestnut mare without one for awhile, then started using it on her, then about a month later I forgot it in the trailer and rode without it. My mare moved 5 steps from the mounting block, backed up back to the mounting block and refused to move. I got off, went to the trailer, tacked her up with the pad, and she moved briskly off.
