Does anyone have one? Likes/dislikes? I’m looking specifically at the trifecta cotton half pad with sheepskin rolls. Want something with a bit more substance than my fleeceworks one.
I like Thineline, and I have their bareback pad, but if you really want Shock Absorption, Then I would check out the Toklat Matrix pads.
This compares the thin line pads to the Matrix:

And here’s their website:

(You can find their products cheaper on other websites though)
I can’t decide if I’m very impressed with that, or if I feel like it’s fixed. Maybe a magnet. Lol I’m always so skeptical. I’d definitely like to see the pad in person. Im gonna check it out and see if they have a return policy of any sort!
I’m a big fan of ThinLine products. Great quality and they really work to absorb concussion. I can feel a definite difference in my own back when I use one/don’t use one, especially on longer rides.
I have the Trifecta without any sheepskin because I like the ease of chucking it in the washer (which I don’t do often since I ordered black).
Their (people) shoe insoles are terrific, too.
We carry the Thinline and the Matrix (T3) Pads, and sell a pretty even number of both. . . It really depends on what you’re looking for as to which pad will work better for you. . For hunter land I see a lot of the plain Thinline to go between the saddle and the fitted pad. The matrix pads sell more to Eventers, but I honestly like them both!
If you need further comparison or have any questions you can always PM me!

I have this same pad too. I just bought it last week so have only used it a few times, but I had the plain ThinLine half pad (just the ThinLine material) for many years before that. It’s finally cracking at the front of the pad where I pull it into the pommel (yeah, yeah, I know they say not to pull it up but I pull my square pad up and the ThinLine is on top. Plus I feel that if I don’t, it puts pressure on the withers).
The trifecta I’m using with front lift shims as my close contact just wants to settle pommel down all the time. I have it fitted but it tends to sink down in front. The trifecta with shims keeps the saddle level.
I love my Thineline pad. Love love love. I really didn’t expect to feel a difference, but in bringing my horse back after a substantial time off, he has not gotten sore once. I continue to use it everyday as I feel the difference when I ride him in it.
It is not bulky so will not change the fit of your saddle, which I like, too.
I have the Ultra Thinline Trifecta half pad with sheepskin rolls. I love it! It’s been very durable and has held up to multiple (hand) washings. I also like that it is shimmable but is not bulky. My horse seems to like it as well. I would definitely recommend.
I’ve got the full sheepskin Thinline pad - the pony loves it, the saddle fitter loves it, and the pony’s masseuse loves it…who am I to argue? ??
I can feel a big difference in my ability to sit bounciness when I have the Thinline, but I haven’t noticed much of a difference in the horse’s happiness… He seems to go either way, but LOVES having sheepskin under his pad.
Fair warning though, Thinline sheepskin has a reputation of not doing so well – you may be brushing clumps off in as little as a few months after purchase. I used to handle returns at a tack store and the bulk of the Thinline sheepskins we sold were brought back within the year for defective sheepskin.
I bought the “Ultra ThinLine Trifecta Cotton Half Pad with Sheepskin Rolls” because I wanted some shock absorption without the added bulk of a full sheepskin pad. But I wanted the sheepskin rolls so I could use the pad for shows.
LOVE this pad. It holds its shape really well, it’s not too thick so does not really affect saddle fit. I leave the pad under my saddle and just use a baby pad so that the underside doesn’t get too gross. I’ve heard they don’t hold up well to washing…I’ve only washed my pad once, but I followed the instructions on the thinline website (used Johnson & Johnson’s baby shampoo), and my pad came out the wash looking brand spanking new. I’ve never lost any sheepskin even though I use the pad daily, sometimes multiple times a day.
I really have absolutely nothing negative to say about this saddle pad.
Can I have a small side bar?
someone mentioned they got the half pad with the sheepskin rolls to show in. Do you just show hunters in the half pad? I’m curious because I’ve always ridden in my half pad. Without the baby pad underneath because it was full sheepskin and I liked it that way. My horse went well. I wasn’t in the hunter ring though. I thought hunters were supposed to show in their fitted pads… Curious if I can get away with showing in just a half pad in the hunter ring. With the rolls of course
I love my thin line pad. It made a huge difference in one of my horses.
my gelding made it quite clear that he requires his thinline pad with my jump saddle. it “buffers” the noise from my seat (as i will admit i’m not the best rider). i have the regular thinline half pad (no cotton or sheepskin), the regular ultra thinline half pad, the thinline trifecta shimable pad (cotton) and the thinline sheepskin pad which is also shimable. i love them all. plus i have the sole inserts for my own shoes.
I have the Ultra trifecta with the sheep skin rolls. I use that one on three of my horses. My other sensitive back guy that is okay with additional padding I like the Ogelvy memory foam.
I found with one of my horses in particular with the thin line pad it really helps with the up and down shock on not only the horse but me too.
My other horse is so smooth I don’t notice but his back is always happy so that is good.
There are so many half pad options and it becomes personal preference. And for me; my tack room looks like a saddle shop. I have so many pads, bits etc… what works for one horse may not work for another.
The thin lines are pricey but you can ebay it if you don’t like it… or like me, just keep it for another ride

You can ride with just a half pad, there’s no rule stating it has to be a full fitted pad. A few years ago the trend was to show in half pads, however that trend has died so you might look a little out of place. I for one never liked the look.
My horses get them. Every single ride. Many years ago when they were new to the market, I took mare (then my horse, now daughter’s) to a show where she shut down - refusals and just NOT herself. She was back sore. The tack store recommended I try the TL pad and loaned me their demo because they were out of them. She went in and performed better than ever. Since then, we’ve acquired several - a sheepskin comfort pad and two thinner, white ones to go on fitted hunter pads. I also use one on New Mare as the thick one was adding too much bulk for her. When we leased Older Mare, part of her lease contract is the the TL pad be used every ride. That’s how much I believe in them.

Darn! I missed the trend! Maybe I can bring it back! Lol thank you for the information!
Another Thinline fan here. I have the Ulta Thinline Trifecta with the sheepskin rolls as well, and it made a HUGE difference with my mare and the saddle fit. I also ordered the front shims fas she has some hollowing behind the withers. I got a new saddle, and even though my trainer was clearing the fit, she was pinning her ears at me every time I placed it on her. She would shuffle back and forth to avoid being tacked up. I’ve had the pad about 2 weeks and won’t ride without it now. She is quiet and still now when I tack her up, free moving, and it has gotten better with each ride. I only purchased after reading all the great reviews, but it was WELL worth the money!

It’s not common, but certainly acceptable. I personally think it’s silly to use a sheepskin half pad over another pad - you’re kind of defeating the purpose of the sheepskin! Every horse in my barn shows in just a half pad and we have no issues with not getting good ribbons because of it
