Do little girls need an invite to paint the world pink?!
This is just awesome!!!
The coat is adorable, and Whitney looks perfect in it!!
FP, glad your trip is going so well. And you WILL graduate and pass those boards!!! I think it’s safe to say we are all in your corner.
Oh, my dear lord, just when I thought it couldn’t possibly get any cuter than Miss Whitney on the heart pillow, under the princess blanket, with the stufftie keeping her company… Whitney in a panda jacket!
EqT, you really need to forewarn us of the impending cute overload these pictures cause!
It looks like all parties involved are truly fortunate, and I have to thank you all for giving me some much-needed smiles this week! (My co-workers would thank you too if they knew, as it’s darn near impossible for me to be grumpy after seeing Whitney and LMEqT photos!)
FP is a rockstar in the world of great people. I too “lost it all” a year ago…but now am happier and more fulfilled than I ever was in that other life.
FP, you are going to be one awesome vet and I just WISH you could end up near me. If you ever want to get away from it all and come visit a kindred soul, you and all your critters are welcome.
Well, what a difference a week can make. I just some really, really good news. Seeing how kind and compassionate the world can be, and how many people are willing to help when you’re just plain honest and ask for help, is so uplifting.
What I realized is that I simply lost trust in myself.
Fear not, COTH friends, because the best thing about being broken, is that you may have the opportunity to heal stronger than before. The scars will always be there, but they add the character (and strength), and even fade in time. Whitey can show EqT trainer that… we thought we’d have to amputate her badly burned, infected tail when she arrived, but now it’s just a tiny scar. The old burn marks on her hip that she came to us with blend in with her coat
Have I mentioned that you gals rock?
Now, if anyone knows of a really, really, really inexpensive apartment for rent for 6 months in Raleigh, or has a horse trailer going from Austin, TX to NM (for my fat palomino), life would be perfect… but, life a little bit imperfect has become just fine for me.
FP-I don’t know if you want to do equine or small animal practice, but I remember Alameda East in Denver (on the Animal Planet Emergency Vet show for years) had intern and residency programs, and they really seemed to have a great, all-around emergency and regular practice. They might be a good possibility for you if you want to go back to Colorado.
Thumbs up from a fellow VCA hospital employee to Alameda East, woo! They do good stuff.
Look around school and see if anyone just wants to rent a bedroom with kitchen, and hopefully laundry privileges. A lot of older women who live alone will do this so they have income and companionship. Something like that would be affordable, and a great, quiet place to study.
Anybody here know of a situation like that in Raleigh? Sometimes word of mouth is a great way to find a place. Maybe a ‘situation wanted’ ad through the vet school? Is there a grad student association at school? They might have a newsletter or bulletin board too. A lot of poeople would be reluctant to have an undergrad student in their home, but would like to have a grad student around.
And I know that I’m probably known for this suggestion, but many nicer trailer parks rent out nice homes, mostly furnished I think, and they’re very affordable. A lot of parks buy trailers from people who buy them, move in, and then find out that they don’t like the new place, so they buy them for rental properties. And some trailer sales places also have parks they own where they put the trailer on a lot in the park. If the person defaults or (unfortunately common these days) just takes off for the hills, the park/sales place will be stuck with a fully furnished (a lot of trailers come with furniture packages these days) place they now own and rent out. When I had a house fire a few years ago the insurance adjustor suggested a particular park, and the price would have been very good, plus many of these places are nice, family parks so they’re safe and nice.
The conclussion
Karma’s come rounda.
Much to my surprise, my little old rescued ranch dog adores her pink princess blanket:

This weekend we (the dogs, cat, and me) moved into our own apartment. No more bipolar alcoholic roommates. This is next to my desk:

At this very moment, my 16 yr old Palomino is loading into a double stall of a trailer, which will pick up my other horse (and all of my “stuff” I left out west in a haste) and come directly to North Carolina. My 2 horses last saw each other 18 months ago, when I quickly moved them off my farm suspecting that my life was about to fall into shambles, and I wanted the horses safe and out of the equation. (Street shot out to the COTHer who called me as I was headed down the highway with a loaded trailer and no exact destination, who gave me a soft place to land that day, and another who’s loved, fed, trimmed, trained, and made it possible for me to hang onto one of my horses for me since for much longer than anticipated). My horses will be boarded just up the road from EqTrainer here in NC, so I am sure Whitney and “her” little girl (LMEqT) will get to spend some more time together :

I’m taking (and passing) my national board exam in 2 weeks. Next month is the official graduation ceremony, although I don’t finish my rotations until the end of the summer. I hope to have a job lined up before I finish clinics. I’m almost to the point where I can say “I made it”, although I still firmly believe it’s only because of the kindness, support, and mentoring of some really awesome people. Wherever we wind up (I’m hoping it will be Austin, TX again, but it could be anywhere), the Princess blanket (and Panda jacket) will be there, and we will keep paying it forward. Thank you all for being a part of this journey!!!
That is such good news FP… safe journey for your horses and good luck on your boards.
(love the ranch dog and her princess blanket.)
Awesome! I love the pic of her with the blanket. She’s smiling!
That’s wonderful! And if you get a job in Austin that would be so great! Anywhere you go the vet practice will be lucky to have you.
Such a relief that everything has worked out for you FP and I hope you find your ideal job position next fall. So great EqTr was able to take in Whitey. She looks like a perfect friend for a little girl!
I am so happy for you FP! And I know that you will rise to the top. If you land in Fl, (tampa bay area) I will be your first client. !!
How wonderful!
