Thornhill Trail vs Thorowgood Endurance- Comfort/Quality

Hey,

I’ve played with getting either a Thornhill Trail or a Thorowgood Endurance for awhile. I am curious to know others’ experiences with these saddle in terms of comfort, quality, etc. Also, are the flaps on the Thorowgood very long or standard A/P length?

If there are other ideas for an English type of trail saddle for a Morgan for under 1000.00, I am open to hearing them. BTW, this is just for playing on the trails, nothing serious.

Can’t speak to the Thornhill Trail, but a friend of mine has a Thornhill Berlin and it’s a beautiful saddle–nice leather and very comfortable.

IME the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever sat in is my Black Forest treeless.

I sent my saddle off with my horse to the trainer and now he wants one.

There are a ton of folks here that have treeless and love them.

I looked into the Thornhill but it was too long for my arab’s short short back. Seemed to be a nice saddle.

If the OP is interested in a treeless, I agree Leather. I love my BF Shasta Echo Synthetic!

Very reasonably priced at $399 and honestly? The picture doesn’t do it justice. It looks exactly like leather.

I bought mine at www.gallopinggrape.com

It is super comfortable.

I got the Thorowgood endurance saddle a few months ago, and I absolutely love it.

Check out this thread for my review and some pictures.

The flaps are normal AP length - I’m 5’3" and ride with a medium-length stirrup, and the flaps are perfect for me.

Thanks for all the input so far. Dover seems to offer the lower price on the Thorowgoods at the moment, but it may take 14 weeks. How long did it take to get your Thorowgood in from Hastilowusa.com?

I think it was about 9 weeks. At the time that I ordered it (late november), she said that Thorowgood was just starting production on it – I think they redesigned it or something? – and she had a waiting list when I finally got the saddle in early february. Hopefully she’s been able to get more in by now.

Note that if it’s the endurance model you want, it’s a special order for Dover - they will make you pay in advance and they won’t let you take it on trial or return it if it doesn’t work out. That’s why I ordered from Hastilow – Annette let me take it on trial, and she even let me keep it for a month until the snow melted enough so I could actually ride in it. She was super-nice and very knowledgeable (she came out and did a saddle fitting with it, and then left it with me on trial).
