Thoroughbred Andalusian Cross

I am look at a very cute Thoroughbred cross and was wondering if I could get comments on her dam’s pedigree. I would appreciate any comments on this mare’s pedigree.

Also, if any of you have any experience with this type of cross I’d appreciate knowing what they can be like. Thank you.

When you see Buck Passer and Turn-To together in a pedigree, which you often do, it usually would mean Jump. Not knowledgeable about the more up front names.

Lots of “jump” on the dam’s side with Royal Charger, Olympia, Beau Pere…

I like Northern Dancer in a pedigree! Normally those horses have good minds…

No way to make any predictions though about the cross. You’re just going to have to go by the horse that’s in front of you. Do you have someone who is more knowledgable than you who can give you their opinion?

I have a 2004 Andalusian/TB mare, by Botijo M out of a Restivo mare. She is gorgeous: she got the positive attributes of both breeds. She is refined like a TB without a lot of knee action; ride her in a low frame and she will go like a hunter. However, she has lots of ability to collect and has a more expressive trot when ridden in a higher frame. I am an eventer dabbling in dressage with her - we are currently showing at Third Level - but she has a lot more ability for the higher levels of dressage. She is very sensitive, more on the TB side, but quite trainable.

I was originally attempting to event her because she is SO athletic and is a very clever jumper with an excellent technique, but disappointingly she is not AT ALL brave. She is quite spooky and neurotic, but works very well when kept on the job and not allowed to get distracted. I previously tried to event a full Andalusian mare and found her to have a similar temperament, just less “hot” and not quite as sensitive without the TB blood.

I like the cross, although I find that Andalusians (from my own experiences and observations/experiences of others) can be tight in the back and difficult to effectively work over the back, and the TB tension doesn’t necessarily help with this. I’ve always thought a more level headed warmblood cross would be a better combination, but my mare is certainly talented and lovely to ride if you like a sensitive, sophisticated ride!

I have a 1998 Model that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE!!! She has more knee action and can’t compete in the hunter ring but she is extremely athletic and can jump the moon. I have foxhunted her first flight with some of the big NOVA hunts as well as evented her through training level, and the only reason we didn’t go higher was because if my health. She is only 15.1hh and is built more like an Andalusian than a TB. She is my sports car and can zip around a jumper course and she will jump anything you point her at.

She is opinionated and you can’t make her do anything but if you make it her idea she is fine. She loves to work and isn’t scared of anything. I would have a million of her if I could get my hands on them.

Thank you all, this is wonderful information. I really appreciate it.
