Thoroughbred in the Hunter Ring

Something I love to see.

I agree. :slightly_smiling_face:

Honor Code gets some flashy horses, not surprised they could end up in the hunters.

I had a lovely TB hunter back in the early 2000s, just the best mind and movement. He absolutely made me a better, lighter, more sensitive rider. He was a Mexican TB, did the A/Os in CA before TBs fell out of favor with the rise of warmbloods-- what a jump he had!. I miss that horse so much! (he was the inspiration of my user name, and when he was stolen, COTHers helped me get him home…a long time ago, and a long story!).

This is such a lovely horse! I stabled next to him last summer for a couple of weeks and he is super sweet and handsome. I dislike when people say “looks like a WB” as a selling point for a fancy TB, but this horse definitely looks like a WB. :joy:

I get what you’re saying but those of us that have been around big bodied, big boned, quiet and sweet tb’s kind of grit our teeth when we hear it.

I do too, which is why I said I dislike when I hear someone use it as a selling point for a TB, not merely as a descriptor. There’s nothing wrong with a TB looking like a TB, or a TB looking like a WB, or a TB looking like a QH. I have all three and a nice horse is a nice horse.

Warmbloods often have a huge amount of blood in them. I’ve said it on another thread but, the accurate/appropriate statement is “How beautiful, your warmblood looks like a thoroughbred!”

Or a WB looking like a TB for that matter.

Today’s warmbloods do but my first exposure/riding experience with them was in the early-mid 1970’s and the ones I came into contact with were large, heavy types. They were nice movers and jumpers, but definitely a big heavier type than many of today’s WBs.

I ride WBs and my current guy has 1/4 TB. TBs are super athletic and fun to ride. I rode hunters and eventers on TBs and they were pretty much “hey rider, I got this” unlike some WBs who say “are you sure?”. I love a good TB to jump and just be brave. Huge fan of TBs!

My sentiments exactly.
It always makes me grind my teeth when someone describes a TB as “looking just like a WB”. That good horse looks and moves and jumps, EXACTLY like what it is, a beautiful, athletic THOROUGHBRED.

Archie Cox posted about a horse names InSync awhile back. That horse was one to watch and won on both coasts…and it was a TB! I hope they make more of a resurgence back in the hunter ring.
