Go Fish, I have a very nice mare that I think would match well with AFR (would love to have that happen) – but I’m sure the distance would factor in. She’s not for sale, but would rather have her in production to a good stallion than just hanging out.

TKR - I wish you lived closer! I love the horses you have produced from your breeding program and would love to see our ‘bloodlines’ mesh.
Thanks to the people who have AFR on their someday list, or who have had kind things to say about him. Much appreciated.
HilltopfarmVA - I know the feeling!
I used to breed racehorse too, and one day I remember saying to myself - as yet another horse came off the track and went into the show ring…as a hunter, eventer or jumper…
(with chagrin!) “I am breeding show horses!!!”
It should not have surprised me. I was very concious of the fact that a horse has a relatively short life on the track, and if a horse was beautiful, correct, athletic and had a good temperament their chances of a happy second life were much increased.
So when I choose both mares and stallions to breed them to I was always aware, and looked for certain pedigrees, and athletic types.
Certainly when I bred to AFR’s sire Brave Shot (GB) - my first thought when I saw his picture was “this horse can JUMP!!”.
I bred A Fine Romance to be a race horse too - but life takes turns, doesn’t it.
I haven’t finalized my breeding plans yet - but I will most likely be breeding my Trak mare by the GP jumper Ali Baba, and my English ** event mare by Catch the Thatch
to A Fine Romance.
There may be one more mare …what’s that baseball term?
