Thoroughbred Stallions: Who is planning on breeding to them in 2011? Which boys are your top candidates and who are the lucky ladies? What is the #1 reason you are breeding to that stallion?
I’ve seen a lot of threads about the TB boys out there but am curious as to who is actually breeding to them and why
I am torn in a few directions, but I have two Thoroughbreds on my top list.
#1. Triple Twist - He is the right size for me, and hopefully won’t throw larger. He has excellent bloodlines for sport, and has competed in Eventing. My mare is a full sibling to an advanced level eventer herself. #2. Innkeeper - I absolutely love this stallion, I’ve heard great things about his offspring, and I think he would be a great cross to Casey as well.
Both of them also throw ammy temperaments. My mare isn’t hot, but she can be sensitive so I’d prefer not to add to that.
I will be breeding my Puchi Trap (bay sabino TB) mare back to Guaranteed Gold (cremello TB stallion) for her 8th foal with him. The match is simply magic - every single foal is spectacular …
RFF Pearlescent (perlino TB) is also being bred back to Guaranteed Gold for a 100% guarantee of a double dilute TB foal
My new TB mare that I just bought yesterday will also be bred to Guaranteed Gold for her first foal. Will be dilute and should have some wild markings as well …
My other TB mare that I am breeding is a daughter of Guaranteed Gold so she is being bred to my other stallion who is Polish WB, but 54% TB, so I will get a little over a 75% TB foal with that cross …
I am trying to find a permanent home for my main broodmare ( the dam of the 2005 Sallie B Wheeler champion) but if I don’t find one by March, I will breed her to Canadian Kid to get another hunter as close to my first palomino, Gold Panda, as I can (given that his dam is now deceased).
PineTree, I absolutely love Sea Accounts but my mare is related to him, and we’re too far away. Her pedigree is here: Casey Darlinghttp://www.pedigreequery.com/casey+darling2I hate being so limited geographically. Otherwise I’d love to look at Coconut Grove and AFR.
I would use Roanoke http://www.pedigreequery.com/roanoke2
if he was still here in PA…but one, he moved to the midwest and two he is already in my mare’s pedigree. Roanoke consistently produces TBs that look like WBs.
Another top choice is Sir Juli Go http://www.pedigreequery.com/sir+juli+go
here in PA. My problem with him is that he is gray. Normally I don’t care about color…but the mare is a pinto TB. Pinto people don’t like gray foals since they lose their “color” eventually. For a non pinto mare I would use him for sure. He raced a lot, stayed sound and went on to jump after that.
If I end up breeding her (up in the air with the economy) my top pick at present is way up in Canada at Blazing Colours:
Golden Time http://www.blazingcoloursfarm.com/stallions.html
mare is a bit short/he is tall and confo looks lovely. The dilute color is a bonus if the foal gets both dilute and pinto…but not important.
I need a mare to breed to A Fine Romance. The two I have won’t cross well on a TB. I’m trying to figure out how I can sneak a 3rd mare into the field without DH noticing.

Thank you Go Fish!!
My advice, after long years of sneaking mares in past the not-so-watchful eye of the DH, is to stick with plain bays… they all look the same to him. ;)
Our mare Everhope is going to All American
Advocata may go to Ambassador or back to Leroidesanimaux
Whitewater Maze is going to Repriced
Three more with ?
Is anyone planning to breed to/interested in Pegasus Pure Gold? I love the dilute colour but he is such a gorgeous mover I would breed to him without it! I’m waiting for him to prove himself as an eventer a bit more and to see how some of his foals turn out performance-wise before I consider breeding to him. Just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on him…?
Go Fish, I have a very nice mare that I think would match well with AFR (would love to have that happen) – but I’m sure the distance would factor in. She’s not for sale, but would rather have her in production to a good stallion than just hanging out.

I’m breeding my Trakehner mare (EH Buddenbrock x EH Benz) to Coconut Grove xx. Expecting an upper level eventer from that cross
I think it’s safe to say that he fulfills the meaning of “proven” in terms of his own accomplishments, his damline and his siblings, and his oldest offspring are showing a good deal of promise in the showring. He is also known to complement my mare in the areas where she needs a helping hand (legs, thrust).
Sea Accounts is another one I have on my short list and also AFR.
My sister is trying again with Coconut Grove for her 19 year old Rhinelander maiden.
Mare is big, old style, amazing personality. Successful A/O jumper still in work. Needs some blood. We joke that if she put her to some WBs out there the baby would come out pulling a cart.

It probably doesn’t help to know I am pretty sure his 1/2 sister has a white spot on her neck (that you can only see when she is wet because she, too, is gray) & that he himself has sired a very flashy non-gray filly from a plain bay mare, the filly having an interesting blaze & 4 high, jagged whites.
I hope you find the home you want for her, but still - Good to hear!
I will be breeding to these two stallions, myself. And possibly to our very dark bay race stallion, Mountain Top, as well.
