Thoroughbreds in Warmblood Breeding

Hello all,

I am fairly new to this forum. I wanted to inquire about something I’m not as educated in, and that would be Warmblood breeding. I found a stallion I really like registered with RPSI or Westphalen, and am inquiring on the support I would receive breeding Balta’Czar to a high quality Thoroughbred mare. I heard Westphalen is much more accepting of Thoroughbred blood than some other registries. I love how refined and athletic TB x Warmblood crosses can be, but I hesitate without more information.

Thank you!

Your mare would need to be approved by warm blood registry in order to register the foal.

We have found the American Hanoverian Registry very welcoming to our Thoroughbred Mares. We took 3 mares last season to inspection (ages 3-11) and all 3 made the Main Mare Book.

I haven’t spoken with Saret yet, but am eager to. I know someone who had a Balta’Czar colt a while back and I remember meeting him. He was an excellent colt and went off to be a great hunter. It is good to know the American Hanoverians are accepting. Thank you all for your input!! Cloudyandcallie, do you know of any good online resources that are free?

Thank you all again!

The mare will be accepted to either RPSI or Westphalen if you decide to breed her to one of their stallions.

FWIW, you can breed her to any KWPN licensed or erkend stallion and get kwpn papers on the foal without a mare inspection as they accept all papered TB mares without inspection.

OP you’ve got two different kind of questions answering here. Which registries accept BC if that is your chosen choice and which registries accept TB mares and how - some require an inspection, others don’t. Some registries are more closed. And registries differ by reputations and value.

Keep in mind that if you choose by registry that you have to choose a stallion that is approved with that registry. Some stallions are accepted by multi registries but only if the stallion owner pays to keep them current. Why I offered that you speak with the SO if you need more info to make a decision.

This can highly depend upon your location and where inspections are held; is that distance doable for you for transporting - esp important if you choose to do a foal/mare approval together. Which is what I did bc I’m 40 min from a BWP approval site.
