Aw. Now you’ve gotten me to thinking and reminiscing about the Pig Road Vixen. So named because she could be counted on to provide us a reliable gallop that included what was known locally as the Pig Road- in the woods near kennels.
Her den was in the front pasture at kennels where the hunt horses were turned out over the summer, and you could count on lots of views similar to these photos every spring to summer. Very very cutest when those tiny little fur balls come out of the den for the first time. And heck, they didn’t even bother to displace themselves from sunning near the den when we walked the pack out the kennel driveway to the road.
Although the average life span of a red fox in the wild is about 2.5 years last I checked, this vixen was around for at least 4 years. She is now on my basement wall, a shoulder mount. NOT accounted for out hunting. We found her body alongside the road near kennels. Some idjits had shot her with a .22 and taken her brush. So, I kept a lovely part of her anyway!
This is her second litter for me. She had 3 cubs last year
How wonderful-so cute!
