Thoughts on this injury? Left hind, not obvious lame, but possibly a bit stabby with it (haven’t seen it yet myself). No abrasion, slight heat.
I’ve made it through nine years with nothing major, so I keep expecting the shoe to drop. I’ll be out to see it first thing today, but we have sleet/snow on the way and I may not be capable of getting to the horse for a few days, which makes me nervous.
If the swelling is mainly on the outside of the cannon bone as it appears, my first guess would be a bruise caused by an impact. Icing and anti-inflammatories would be indicated IF that guess is plausible.
Obviously, this photo is not diagnostic. What does the most knowledgeable/experienced person at the barn have to say about it?
It’s hard to tell from this photo, but at first glance it could possibly be a popped splint. I’d have your vet out to look, or at least send a photo if they’re good about that. Rest and cold therapy would be in order.
