Thoughts on Emerald Van 'T Roytershof

What does everyone think of this stallion?

Did anyone purchase semen from Ann @ A-1?

I’d love to hear as well!

Personally, I like this stallion a lot and hope to breed to him this year or next. He competed this past winter with Harrie Smolders down at WEF. He already has two sons who are approved stallions - I’m Special De Muze who is now at Nijhof and Justin Van De Zandhoeve.

Emerald’s '03 full sister also competed at 1.5m and has been bred extensively by ET. She is the grand-dam of the recently approved Numero Uno son Jilbert Van’t Ruytershof. They have since re-done the cross and there are two more full sisters, an '09 and a '11.

I’ve not heard of any pregnancies yet in the US, but the frozen semen is reported to be very effective. I’m getting it through Jens Richter at Global Equine Sires.

I noticed on Global and A-1 that there is a minimum purchase of 3 doses. I wonder why? Emerald is a little pricey when compared to proven producers but I still LOVE him.

Just saw the posts and thought I’d throw some info out there. I bred to Emerald this year and went directly to Caroline Smolders who was a great help. Their stock of Semen for Emerald sold out this year by June but I am aware that there is more semen in the U.S. and in fact Caroline told me that I was one of two shipments so far in the 2012 season(that was back in March). So fingers crossed, there will be a small number of Emerald babies in the U.S. to evaluate.
The semen quality was very good and my maiden mare took on the first try (used 2 straws).

I have heard good things about this stallion from people who are breeders but deeply involved in the performance and competition side of things as well.

I would like to buy one dose of semen. I certainly don’t need all three. Does anyone know of who I could contact about that?

Horseforfun - You should confirm it with the frozen semen agent, but my understanding is that the price of $2400 is for one foal, so whether you use 1 dose or three to achieve a pregnancy, the cost is the same for the foal.

I just saw this guy on A-1 Performance sires (a little late).

I read a few people comments on him last year but wanted to know if anyone used him?
I didn’t see anything requiring a minimum of 3 doses and nothing about the 2,400 per foal so I’m assuming that changed for 2013?!

He is on my list for next year.

its not 3 doses…its three straws per dose…

My mare just got bred to him. I love him, great pedigree, incredible jump and I’ve heard he has a lovely temperament. My vet said the frozen was top grade. Now…if only they cooked faster! 11 months is such a long wait!

What kind of mares has everyone been using for him? Anyone have recommendations from Caroline?

Bumping this up, anymore thoughts? I’m looking at a little colt by him and am curious. Did anyone end up breeding to him?

He has a facebook page with I seem to remember lots of youngsters on it.He seems to stamp them as I often have trouble recognizing whether it is him or a child pictured.

Caroline told me to use a longer lined mare as the foals that they are seeing in Europe are shorter lined.

There will be 3 foals by him due in June at the farm. All 3 mares are longer lined holsteiner mares. I can report back once they are safely on the ground.

Ponygirl - Can you report back on your thoughts on Emerald?

Other Foals by Emerald?

I have a 2015 colt by Emerald. Breeding was single dose on proven mare last year. Ezio was certainly marked by his sire with loads of chrome in many places. Those that have had foals are they on the market? Pictures of mine are on my website - http://progeny.weebly.com/young-horses.html. The mare info is also there along with a picture. This is her fourth foal - the others are also there for comparison.

Lovely lovely foal ProgenySH, Im a massive fan of Emerald and the foals I have seen from him have all been extremely classy

Our Emerald colt is stunning. Athletic, personable, easy to work with and has great movement and is a blood bay with chrome. He was on of the top scoring foals in the NA Belgian Warmblood book this year and won his site inspection. Defiantly going to be a winner in the future. Very happy to have a colt of this quality to offer for sale to NA buyers =)
