Thoughts on Exiss Horse Trailers

Exiss used to have a terrible reputation and a search here on COTH bears that out. There are a lot of former owners sharing their negative experiences. But I have heard that Exiss has since been bought by Universal Trailers. I haven’t heard anything negative lately. Is Exiss a safe option? I am kind of a freak about trailering safety already so I need a trailer I can trust. I do like the idea of a lighter trailer, because I think a trailer that my 3/4 ton truck can pull well will feel safer.

I am thinking about getting a 2+1 and I have found some Exiss models that look nice. Rather than order a new one, I’d like a more affordable used one to see how well I like the 2+1. The challenge is to find a trailer that is at least 7"8" if not taller. If I love it, then I can eventually order a new one and I will have better idea of sizes and features I need. My current 2 horse gooseneck Hawk is 20+ years old now and I have always been happy with it, except for the lousy paint.

I’ve never seen one that didn’t leak like a sieve.
I haven’t seen any built in the last 4 or 5 years though.

I have 2018 Exxis that I had built for me. It has never leaked or given me any trouble. It’s been from Michigan to Texas many times with no problems. Before this trailer I had a used 2013 Exxis that also performed well and never leaked.
Don’t ask me about Sierra who did the interior of my living quarters. That’s a completely different story. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I had an Exxis for several years and never had any issues with it. I liked it.

I have a 2014 Exiss stock/combo (with a small tack area up front). It hauls really well, never have had any problems with it leaking. It’s kept outside. I like it.

I had a 2001 4 horse head to head Exiss trailer that was amazing that was purchased brand new, then went to IL to have a LQ built. So it pretty much ended up being a 2 +1 with a LQ. We had it for over 17 years with 0 issues, loved the trailer but we needed something bigger so we traded it in. We did re seal the roof with the proper tape and sealer I think twice in the 17 years that we owned it. This way it never leaked. It is normal and regular trailer maintenance though.

My in laws have a 2002 2 horse bumper pull that they have used for stallions, mares, foals and everything in-between and again, 0 issues and still own it and use it today.

I also own a 2013 2 horse bumper pull that I bought brand new from an Exiss dealer with again, 0 issues and I still own it and use it. I have not put $0.01 into it (though I need new tires now) and it has not leaked or had any damage whatsoever. It is built solid and is a great trailer - still looks brand new as my husband is a detailer and has waxed it and polished all the aluminum to come up chrome looking. She’s a beauty!

I would have 0 issues ever purchasing another Exiss. We did end up purchasing a Cimmeron custom trailer in 2018 as Exiss was unable to build the trailer that we needed (and Exiss wasn’t the only company that couldn’t - several different manufactures passed on our trailer requirements as their engineers just couldn’t make our size of trailer work out).

I have not seen any newer ones though, so I can’t comment on that.

I have a 2002 Exiss stock combo that I bought new. It’s been all of the country. It’s held up beautifully and I have ZERO complaints about it. It’s also my go-to trailer for horses that don’t ride well or don’t like to load because it’s super light and inviting and rides smoothly
