I have the chance to breed my Balou mare out of an Ahorn mare to Voltaire. Anyone have any thoughts on this cross? Or Voltiare offspring?
Just my observation but some of the top horses in sport right now have Voltaire/Nimmerdor nick. And best of all you see it in both dressage and jumping.
Kannan (top ten of jumping sires), Lancelot Now or Never…

And tons of second gen crosses like this boy http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10622901, or http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10496576 and dressage http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10219049
I also notice Joost and Marco Polo in many of the best pedigree’s with Voltaire.
Personally, LOVE the cross. But I may be a tad, ahem, biased perchance???
Here is my Balou/Voltaire
You will have to do your research and ask around about semen quality. I’ve heard from many different breeders that Voltaire’s frozen semen is not good. That being said, Mare Owners are getting pregnancies…just not necessarily on the first cycle
We have tried a cross close to what you are thinking of trying and we LOVE the result our 2012 KWPN filly Hollanda P (Voltaire x Rolanda Elite (Ahorn x Lord Calando x Ahorn Z).
Here are some photos of Hollanda:

Hollanda’s dam is in foal to Cardento for 2013 but we will be trying this cross again.
We also tried Voltaire with our Keur Emilion mare Pepita-S here is the result, Goddess P photos of her at birth, weanling and one year:
