I adopted a LCC foal. I had rescued a mare from a slaughter lot who turned out to be pregnant. She foaled a beautiful filly, but sadly the mare died of post foaling complications five weeks later. The filly needed a buddy so I adopted a nurse mare foal. He taught her to drink out of a bucket and it was great fun raising the two of them. They both grew up to be healthy, gorgeous, easy to handle horses. Yes, many of the LCC babies come from Roseberry. I too took issue with “propaganda” on the LCC website about starving babies and pony skins. I asked repeatedly that they reword those sentences to better reflect the status of the industry today. It especially bothered me when I received fundraising letters from LCC full of “starving baby” lines and how if the babies were not rescued they would either die or be sold to slaughter, something I knew was not a true statement. While the babies may have been throwaways years ago, they are no longer. Foal rescues like LCC have a market for these babies and most are adopted very quickly. Surely it is a labor of love and I respect the work they do. I wish their website and fundraising letters would stick to the facts though.
