My horse was on a long layup and stall bound for several months. In that time, he developed thrush in his RF. It’s in the central sulcus and made a crack in between his heel bulbs. This happened several months ago. My vet had me pack the crack with gauze and use thrush buster for a week. That took care of it, but the crack never closed. Flash forward to he’s getting turnout and it’s raining and it’s baaaack! I feel like I got the active thrush killed with a regime of soaking in epsom salts; flushing with dilute iodine, Today’s cow cream, thrush buster and packing with gauze. My question is what do I need to do when there’s not an active infection, but the crack in heel bulb and central sulcus still remains? Keep packing and flushing it until it does? Is there something easier and more streamlined than what I’m currently doing? I’m going to do a clean trax soak this week just to be 100% sure it’s all gone, but wanted to be sure there wasn’t some magic concoction of which I’m not aware that will help close up the central sulcus and heel bulb crack. Thanks!
I like using a syringe and squirting some copper sulfate mixed in some zinc oxide in there… works great for me. 50/50 ACV and water also works well too but does not stick like the zinc oxide mixture does. I’ve also heard people have had results with just straight zinc oxide. The extra strength stuff, I think it’s like 45%.

If you’ve got a butt crack at the back of the frog, heels must be contracted?
Can we see photos? If he has contracted heels the crack will remain, thrush or no thrush.
