I’m curious about the fleece side pieces. I guess they serve kind of the same purpose as blinkers? I’ve never seen that before, though. Is this just more of a European thing than American?
You see them a lot on show jumpers here in the States, or at least you used to. I can’t think of a current horse who competes with them. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an American race horse using them, probably because we have so many cup options for blinkers. I really don’t know anything about specific equipment rules in the rest of the world.
I’ve seen them on Euro bought turf horses in Southern California. I can’t think of a famous one though.
Those are like shadow rolls over the nose but along the sides instead.
They are Kant-See-Back rolls and the name says it all - keeps them from seeing behind them. Some horses will quit if they see another one closing in fast and with the rolls they can’t see the other horse until he looks him in the eye so to speak. It is something the runners ‘stole’ from harness racing
