Put your hair in pigtails with ribbons, jack your stirrups up a notch or two, wear paddock boots, and smile really big?
I see zero problem with this for a ticketed warmup. I know of horses that have done ticketed schooling rounds in draw reins. At Thermal. (or whatever weāre supposed to call it now, but it was called Thermal then)
Thanks, thatās a good reference point!
The last page of the prize list for the new owners of Thermal reads:
Thermal: Itās ok, we call it that too.

Sorry to sidetrack, but that made me SO happy.
Thatās pretty darn funny! Good for them for having a sense of humor right off the bat.
I think that ribbon is a token of gratitude from the ring crew - since they didnāt have to replace rails!
I occasionally call it Indio.
My favorite was years ago when it wasnāt a marathon. They moved it to Showpark, but still called it the Desert Festival.
But they lost the camel and ostrich races along the way from Date Festival to Desert whatever along with some of the charm of parking and stabling in a fare palm grove⦠Do they still have the Date Shakes or are they now too trendy for such things?
I remember when it was Indio. That sounds a lot better than Thermal IMO. What is the new name? (I looked at the link but canāt tell if its going to be referred to as Desert International, Desert Circuit or Sunshine Series.)
I think everyone is back to calling it Thermal colloquially. For a while Tom tried to convince us to call it Coachella, I guess piggybacking on the music festival?
The new owners have renamed the park the Desert International Horse Park, keeping the āSunshineā name for the November dates and āDesert Circuitā for the Jan-Mar dates.
Sorry @Training Cupid for totally derailing your thread!!! :concern:
Lol no problem, I got enough feedback to make an informed decision!
Thanks, its easier to just keep calling it Thermal. So confusing to have different names for the various dates but now that you mention it I do recall hearing it called Coachella for a bit.
