Might be a stupid question but I’m just getting into barrel racing and my new mare runs best in a tie down but she also responds well to a bit less bride I have. Would it be safe to use both?
I don’t see why not, as long as the tie down is attached to a separate noseband and not the sidepull/hack you’re using.
A tie down and a hackamore should sit on the horse’s nose in different places, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

If that is what works best for your horse, yes you can use a hackamore with a tie down.
