Timer for Kalglo Infrared Heater

I’m going to have a Kalglo infrared heater installed this fall so grooming during the winter isn’t so miserable this year. I want to put in a timer so I don’t need to remember to turn it off. Any recommendations? It will be in the barn aisle.

What size heater are you getting? What’s the listed amp draw?

20 amp timer switches are harder to find than 15 amp ones. All of them will say to not hook it to an outlet (which, when pressed, they will admit is BS).

This is the one I was planning to get

from the product description

  • 1-year manufacturing warranty
  • All-aluminum construction
    > 7’ double insulated cord
  • (2) 6 1/2’ hanging chains
Wattage: 2000 Watts
Volts: 240 Volts
Amperage: 8.3 Amps

a plug in timer for a 220VAC air conditioner can control this heater…under $30
this is an example of what is readily available, I have never used this product

WYJ 16A WiFi Air Conditioner Wall Plug Socket Outlet Compatible Better Than IR Remote Controller Smart Life APP Compatible with Home-0614

this plug in timer is remotely programable, it is rated twice the power use of the heater, hand held program is said to be included

Clanters will work.

The one I was looking to get was 12amp, which put me at a 20amp timer switch with margin (yes, 15amp is technically ok, but I wanted more just in case of startup surge).

I don’t need anything fancy. I just need it so I can be confident I cannot forget to turn the heater off.

I’m aware.

OP, you have a dedicated circuit for this, yes? It’s 240V, not 110V. I apologize if I’m stating something obvious to you.

My husband is a career long union industrial electrician in the city of Chicago. I’m fully aware of all this.

I’m asking OP if they are aware that this heater is not plug and play on a standard 110v outlet.

Hi all,

Yes, I’m aware that it’s 240V. Already been in contact with my electrician to put in the correct receptacle for me. He told me there’s plenty of power available - he just needs to put in the right equipment.

I’m going to have him install the timer, as well.

Perfect! Let me know how you like it, I have my eyes on the 110v version as a christmas present to me

Will do!

I toyed with the idea of just getting the 110V model as then I could just plug in, but I need to have the electrician out for some other stuff so I figured I’d just have him do this. My tack room where the breaker box is still a disaster - walls partially removed to make access to electrical wires easier - so now’s the time to do it if I am going to.

I actually would prefer just a manual timer. My wifi at the barn is a bit iffy at times. Haha, that’s another thing that’s been on my to do list for a long time - put in a wifi satellite in the barn. It’s never-ending . . . .
