tiny white spot on eye

my 3 yr old andalusian filly has a tiny white spot on the dark part of her eye, very close to the white of her eye (near the outer part of her eyeball) Does this sound familiar to anyone? Should I be alarmed? Call the vet out?
Thanks

My horse had a spot that sounds very much like yours. I had the vet out and she said he’d probably gotten something in there that irritated it. . She did say that the color might come back. The good news is that his completely healed and the color came back.
Jingles for the same outcome for your horse.

Call the Vet - Better Safe…

Yes, you should contact the vet. It is possible that the white spot could be an ulcer, where the eye has suffered some trauma. It’s easy for the vet to stain the eye and diagnose.

Does the white spot move at all? Or is it fixed in the same place? If it moves, it could be floating discharge from the eye. If it doesn’t, it could be an ulcer. I would suggest getting it checked out… I have regretted not calling the vet immediately about eye problems in the past…

Good luck!

Get it checked out. As stated before, it could be an ulcer, if so, it must be treated.

My horse had sadly gotten an eye injury from a twig out in the pasture. Poked him right in the eye. I took him right to the vet, and she treated it agressively with antibiotics, among other things. His whole eye went opaque for a few weeks. Then it gradually cleared up after a couple of months to the gleaming eye it once was. The only eveidence after healing? A small white spot on his eye near the cornea. I would definately have a vet look at it.

Thanks guys. I spoke with my vet and interestingly enough she said it sounded like a possible healed ulcer. Still, I am going to have her out to take a look. Don’t want to mess around with eye issues!

Found this old thread when I looked up white spots. I’m having a PPE done on a horse with one white spot in her eye, like this one. Papered QH, 10 years old.

I’ve never seen it before. The owner is a horse flipper so she doesn’t know where it came from. Of course I’ll have the vet check it, but is it something I should turn the horse down for? It doesn’t seem to bother her as far as I can tell.

Thank you.

i’d assume an old ulcer, but your vet when you do the PPE will tell you whether it bothers them or not.

If the vet says it is alright and the horse acts normally, it wouldn’t bother me.

I’ve seen white spots in eyes, One was an ulcer that took forever to heal, but did eventually, many post-ointment carrots later, heal…

The other was just there. Forever! It was tinier than the ulcer…

Thanks for the responses. I have horrible luck buying horses, even with a PPE, so I’m just trying to educate myself about this spot.

The last horse I had a PPE done had Ocular Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I had heard of it, but never seen it. If I knew it was cancer, I wouldn’t have gotten as far as the PPE, I would have turned the horse down. The owner told me the horse had simply rubbed her eye.
