Also…the 10% less energy between Powerstance and pure soybean oil is around 2500 calories per kg – it’s a lot!
What about Purina Athlete?
Okay, so 3.18 Mkcal/lb = 3180 kcal/lb. That’s 1442 kcal/kg. 1.442 kcal per gram.
That’s 314 kcal in 218 grams, vs the 1962 kcal in a cup of oil.
So still not getting anywhere close to the calories in oil.
Trying to understand your math. Powerstance states 3.18MCal/lb. That’s 3180 kcal/lb. That’s 1442 kcal/kg. How are you getting to 7026 kcal/kg?

Well… if they have 29.4MJ/kg on the label then if we use that number, that’s approx 7022kcal/kg. 1MJ is 238.85kcal. Which is quite different from 1442!
Aha! Simkie, your math conversion from kcal/lb to kcal/kg is off. 1kcal/lb is 2.2 kcal/kg. (I think you were dividing where you needed to be multiplying)
Anyway, using 7.022kcal/g, that is not so far off from to 9kcal/g for oil.
Ha, just came back here to post that I found my error  (FWIW, I think they made the SAME error with the SmartPak label!)
But I get 7011 kcal/kg from their label value of 3.18 MCal/lb, so 7.011 kcal/gram, which tracks given that it’s 70% fat and likely has a few additional non fat calories in the remaining 30%.
305 grams gets 2138 kcal, and is about 2/3rd of a pound of product.
I think a little bit gets lost in the rounding. Since we want to stay in grams at the end, using the MJ/kg value is probably the more reliable number.
I feed Omegatin or Omega Horse Shine in the winter when I don’t want to mess with oil. I haven’t looked into the calories recently though.
Here’s a handy MJ to Kcal converter for future reference:
http://www.kylesconverter.com/energy,-work,-and-heat/megajoules-to-kilocalories
And according to the converter the 29.4 MJ’s of Powerstance does = 7022
Sure. It’s basically a prilled fat with other stuff added, presumably for palatability. Feeding slightly more than you would oil, by weight, will get you close to what you’d get from oil. At least all the numbers are tracking now
15# bucket is $131.35. That’s equivalent to 22 cups of oil. For our OP who’s doing a cup of oil twice a day, that’s nearly twelve bucks a day. Wow.
:lol::lol::lol:
My head nearly exploded while I was trying to do your math!
Glad we got all those calories sorted!
The label on the smart pak site really tripped me up! Kept getting a number that was close to that label and it’s like “yeah, okay, on the right track…”
I have had my guy on the SmartPak fat supplement- It used to be called 99% Fat (sounds appetizing!). They changed the name shortly after I started feeding it. I have noticed a slow and consistent weight gain on my normally thrifty TB over the last 5 months that he has been eating it. I highly recommend this product. He would eat a rock if I offered it to him so I can’t speak for the picky eaters.
