Tiznow

23 yr old Tiznow has been retired. Sounds like he’ll get to hangout at the farm for his retirement & be available for fans to see him.

Seems like not that long ago we were watching him make history https://youtu.be/H0QqdYJeCts

I was scared something catastrophic happened when I saw his name! I’m so glad he’s just entering his pensioner years.

Tiznow embodies all the reasons to love horse racing. Someone should make a movie about him.

He’s my absolute favorite and I was lucky enough to see him privately about 10 years ago. I was just in awe of him. Hopefully I’ll be able to go down and visit Kentucky again before he passes.

That was some race! Tiznow looked like a giant compared to the Arc winner.

Watching Tiznow’s 2001 Breeders Cup Classic will give you chills.

And listen the the names of the amazing horses (later, stallions) that he was running against!

Such a classy horse. I hope he enjoys his retirement… I have really enjoyed (riding) the horses sired by him.

He stamped his horses with a special kind of class…you could tell when you were looking at a Tiznow. So many of them have that elusive “look of eagles.” I hope one of his sons will step up and continue his line.

Meanwhile, Distorted Humor will be 28 (!!) next year and still breeding…2021 fee listed as “private” so it will probably be a limited book to approved mares only…but what a lasting legacy he has had, as well.

28! That’s pretty amazing… makes me sad a bit when one of these oldies with records and performance both on track and in the shed.

Tapit, 20 next year and standing for $185,000 at Gainsway.

Curlin is the baby of this group… a 2004 model standing for $175,000 at Hill ‘n’ Dale’s new digs.

Distorted Humor may end up being know better as a broodmare sire and nothing wrong with that. Many nice progeny on the broodmare side… Arrogate, Elate, Practical Joke, New Money Honey, Constitution among others.
Hah – I adore Tiznow, but I was a Budroyale fan first! I wonder where Bud is (if he is still around)? And they were all such classy horses…
Pedigree Query says he was retired to a farm near where his owner lived in BC. Bloodhorse identified it as Canmor Farms. It’s odd nobody has publicly tracked him down after retirement. He would be 27 if he’s still alive, which is certainly plausible!

Here’s the farm: https://www.canmorfarms.com/

They stand Texas Wildcatter, who I really loved when he was racing.

How tall was he? TIA. I loved this horse as well.

@Texarkana

if you are on FB. They do have a video from this summer of Bud.

@mommy peanut --That’s great!!!

I measured him at 17.0–which was about as high as I could see to measure. :lol: So he could have been a bit taller.

So he is a big boy! :slight_smile:

Oh man, I adore this horse. Count me in with the others whose hearts skipped a beat thinking something had happened to him. I hope he enjoys many long years of happy retirement.

Funny, I still see his BC wins as something from the more recent past, even though 20 years have gone by. Then I see Chris McCarron was his jockey, and I’m like, “Whoa, really? He’s been retired for-ev-er!” I think Tiznow’s 2001 win, like 9/11 just a few shorts weeks before it, feels both like yesterday and a lifetime ago.

His 2001 BC victory is one of my all time favorite races, so I was thrilled when I also got to visit him on a private visit to some KY TB breeding farms. It was the highlight of my trip.
