To the people who say dogs don't smile... Weird pet pics!

I thought it would be fun to showcase some funny/weird pet pics here  I’ll start it off with a pic of what appears to be a zombie (me looking strange) with her smiling zombie dog:

Let’s see your funny/weird pet pics!

Some dogs actually smile. They replicate the human facial expression with a wrinkled nose, bared teeth, and relaxed body language.

The first time my aunt’s Aussie did this, I was home alone. The pup had come from upstairs and upon seeing me and realizing she wasn’t abandoned while the humans went shopping, she raced over and half jumped on me while “smiling.”

I freaked and put her in a “down.” Yay Open-level obedience . She kept smiling and wagging while my heart rate went back to normal and I understood what I was seeing: a smiling dog.

I have since learned some breeds, like Dobes and Aussies, are notorious for their ability to smile.

Dobes will do this goofy smile where they lift the front of their mouth and expose their front teeth. I kind of looks like they are snarling. Here’s an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIWf1d44hDI&feature=related.

My Doberman smiles when he is in trouble or embarrassed about something. Not all Dobermans do it, so I was ELATED when my guy first smiled.

For a more traditional smile, here’s one of my favorites of my border terrier, Mona, smiling for her picture:

This one really captures the Doberman – so sweet!

My favorite picture of the TurboMutt even though it’s slightly blurred. How can anyone say dogs don’t smile?

No weirdness, sorry. It was just a moment during play when I was able to capture some of her joy.

OP - I love the tongue sticking out!

 at all the smiling canines!

FWIW:
Many years ago a friend in vet school told me they were taught only dogs & cats have the same facial muscles humans use to smile.

I used to have a Borzoi. . . huge, gorgeous goof of a dog. Her name was Silly Sally, she came with it, couldn’t change it. I taught her to smile… Borzois have very very long mouths! She scared more than a few people when she’d lift that lip up and smile.

my golden smiles too - freaks some people out too because it does look like a snarl.

one of my favorite youtube videos:

My giant hairy spotted beast smiles. Scares the crap out of people.

I’ll play! Murtis the Rottweiler even smiles while showing off his hunter form.

Murtis also makes various other awesome faces, such as:
Thinking really hard face.
And the “OMG I am so surprised, she has a BALL!!” Face.

Corgi belly rub smile of awesomeness!

My mini Aussie smiles just like this. She does it until she sneezes. Stops…smiles…sneezes…stops. Only for me. Always when I have been gone for a few hours and then call out her name.

Everyone thinks this is a snarl. It is not. It is her happy face.

love beagle happy face!

Now THIS is a TRUE smile!!! I LOVE dogs who can do a full smile, with all the front teeth showing!! (Not my dog, btw.)
