Toilet bowl water is the BEST according to my dogs

Who else has dogs that love the toilet water? I attempt not to have them drink out of the bowl, but they get in there anyway. They even like to come in while it’s in use (but NO drinking).

I have big water bowls inside and outside, still toilet bowl is the best water ever and then they leave a water trail from the toilet into the hall.

Love my dogs, all FOUR of them.

Well, after all, it IS changed multiple times a day, so it’s always fresh.

No dogs, but I used to have a cat who would drink from the toilet and leave wet pawprints on the seat. I have been obsessive about closing the lid ever since.

i think they drink toilet water because its colder.

I’ve also noticed preference between steel and plastic bowls

Mine has her steel bowl filled with fresh water daily and yet she’ll STILL choose the toilet over her own bowl if the lid is left up

Maybe it is the water being cool? Or the ceramic? ???

eta: just remembered pup has a thing for the aquarium water too…over her own water, which will be right next to the aquarium

 i had a friend checking in on my cat when i was out of town many years ago… He would ONLY drink out of a toilet. So of course I left all the bathroom doors open, and toilet seats up. She was in ner hysterics when I got home because 1) I had left him with no water! And 2) he hadnt drank a drop of any of the multiple bowls she had put all over the house!

I felt so bad, but the expression on her face when I told her about his preferences was hilarious!

My cats drink from the tank. I shattered the tank lid, and haven’t had the heart to replace it since they seem to prefer that water!

yeah my dog and cat like to drink out of the toilet, not really a preference over the water bowl, more of a convienence if they are upstairs and don’t wish to go down stairs

hate this, luckily don’t have to deal with it. (my dog has a beard… would be a very wet seat) I do have a ceramic dog water bowl in both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. Always had them there so I have to wonder if always having that option as puppy kept my dog from ever thinking about going for the toilet bowl.

My cocker drank almost exclusively from the toilet bowl. When he was about 10 I had a hip replacement and had to get one of those raised toilet seats. Poor guy, it really rocked his little world to have to go back to drinking from a regular dish!

Once we went to visit friends for a weekend. There were several couples there, and one evening one of the women (we’d had a few) started berating all of the guys for peeing on the toilet seat. Cue blank stares and heated denials from all guys. A couple of hours later, this same woman went to use the bathroom and walked in on Oscar having himself a slurp from the toilet. She had the good grace to apologize!

Years ago we had a sheltered young vet fresh out of school. That summer the city water plant was also having some maintenance difficulties and had issued a boil water recommendation. Young vet inquired whether we were boiling water for the dogs too. Nope, we replied, dogs were washing down their snacks of well aged dead squirrels from the park with unboiled water from the toilet, same as always.
Vet concluded a bit of extra coliform from the city water probably wasn’t going to kill them.

Mine will drink the disgusting, sulfur well fed toilet water at the barn like it’s a pint of guiness put in front of an Irish dude!! But, the nice, cold, non-smelly toilet water at home…furgetaboutit!!!

My cat likes to drink out of the toliet bowl as well.

If you think the dogs and cats in the bowl are something…try not to think about where your toddler daughter got the water to play “tea party” from.

:lol::lol::lol:

Thats horrible, but made me laugh!

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and 1 cat adores toilet water. He likes left over drying shower water the best though- we refer to it as shower juice.

Haha, that’s like my cats. They can’t wait to jump in the shower after I use it and lick up the little extra drops…

I actually keep my toilet lids closed to deny my kitties and pup the toilet bowl satisfaction (plus, I have always been in the habit of closing the lids - something my dad instilled in me, oddly enough). If I’m going out of town, I will leave it open though = )

I’ve found that a fountain style water bowl is the most preferred. I have a little one for my cats, and they drink noticeably more water. I’m thinking about getting a bigger one for the dog.

Don’t have this going on around here (all toilet seats are left down). But I remember reading about a dog who loved to drink out of the toilet but would only do so if he was there to watch it being flushed first! When he was thirsty he’d stand by the bathroom door waiting for someone to come by and flush the toilet for him - then he’d happily drink away. I guess if you insist on drinking out of the toilet, it’s a pretty smart move to also insist on knowing that it contains only pure, fresh water!

All the big dogs love toilet water here… they will even lift the lid to get it. Tried every option for water bowls and they still want the toilet water.

My SO is even trained to go and flush for my one dog to refill the for her.

I think the reason dogs follow us into the bathroom and watch us use it…is because they are appalled that we are soiling their water bowl!

I think you may be onto something. Although my dogs come in and watch me hoping I’ll taker my eyes of them and the waste basket for a split second…
