Both double clear. Well done.
Wow! Good for them!!
Have to admit I havenāt been following along super closely, but are there more observation events, or was Sopot the last one?
Iām thinking this is probably not the year for Bliss and Antidote, which is a shame. Love that horse. But they had a rough go this weekend.
Would love to see Adrienne on the team, sheās been so consistent with Benny this entire year.
One more event, Rotterdam.
Iām guessing weāll see Devin and Beezie in Rotterdam (only two pairs that havenāt done a team observation event yet). Possibly the other two slots will be filled by riders on the list with multiple horses in contention.
This is the Master List of the teams and riders for Rotterdam.
The US is sending McLain, Beezie, Adrienne, and Lucy.
Well, thereās the answer on Devin anyway.
Anyone know what happened at Rotterdam today? Saw this posted on the John Madden Sales page:
"After Garantās extraordinary effort in the first round of todayās Nations Cup in Rotterdam, Beezie, John, and Mrs. Wexner have decided to withdraw Garant from consideration for the US Olympic Team this year. We all believe strongly in Garantās future as a championship horse, but know itās not the right time for him yet. We hated to let our country and teammates down today, but the only thing more important than the team is the horse.
āI love Garant and wouldnāt trade him for any other horse in the world. He is healthy and sound, but just is not quite ready for what the Olympics would ask of him. We have to put his best interests first,ā said Beezie.
Fortunately, the short list for the US Show Jumping Team remains strong and we have no doubt the riders and horses chosen will make the United States proud in Tokyo. All of us at Team JMS look forward to cheering them on next month."
It makes it sound very final that sheās not going, but as I recall, Breitling was also on the list for contention, so I am curiousā¦
The scores show they got a 5 the first round, then withdrew from the 2nd. Unfortunately, I couldnāt watch the live stream, so not sure what happened. Maybe someone else did?
She had a rough ride to the water and a foot in it, it looked like she wanted one more stride. Overall he looked super game, he jumped amazing, but a little green at some of the questions. I thought for sure sheād fix it and pull out a clear second round. A difficult to make decision absolutely, but no doubt the horsemanās decision.
Anybody know of any other father/daughter Olympic combos that have competed at the same olympics in the same sport if Lucy makes it on the team?
There are definitely a fair amount of father/son combinations but I canāt think of any father/daughter ones off the top of my head (although Iām sure there will be more in the next generation)
He will not be at the Olympics next month, but today at Lake Placid, Alex Matz won his first Grand Prix with his dad Michael there to see it. Michael Matz won the same class in 1984 on Chef. So maybe someday they will be added to the father/son Olympic list.
