Tom Selleck wins $187,000 in court battle over horse

Even if the seller is an amateur and not a trainer, she may have had insurance coverage. In some cases, personal liability under a homeowner’s policy can come into play. I would suspect that at minimum, her defense was from provided through an insurance policy.

Personally, I would be surprised if punatives are awarded unless there was some really outrageous behavior.

I hope the Sellecks are able to collect the compensatory award. Winning damages in court is not the same as collecting them.

Even blood tests only screen for the most commonly used drugs, so if anyone uses something other than Ace or Bute or Banamine, it won’t show up.

Just like with humans, not like csi, drugs screens for humans only test for a few drugs, which is why people get away with murder (antifreeze or insulin being drugs that let one get away with murder since they’ve never been routinely tested for)…or pass drug tests when they have something other than Coke or grass or meth in their systems.

It would cost 1000s of $ to test for every drug. And crooks are finding more and more ways to get away with doping.

I hope the jury gives a lot of punitive damages to Selleck. Not a nice thing to do to anyone, and he was willing to fight and not just give up and eat the 120,000. He’s having to do movies on tv, so he’s not one of the very rich. And he should get atty’s fees, as someone stated, his fees are probably more than his recovery so far, unless he has a contingency fee, then he’s paying about 1/2 of his recovery to his lawyers.

There are about 30 horses named Zorro listed on the USEF website. Is there any reason to think it’s the same horse, other than the name?
Yes, visual recognition.

Some of you may find this interesting – from the beginning in Selleck’s case.

Equine Attorney B Paul Husband, (Jr).is the son of Paul Husband who owned the great Arabian horse Kemosabi ++++//

Note the way
he worked the deposition of the veterinarian – this was back in maybe 2007 when all this started. The article in general deals with Equine attorneys – Paul has also worked with the USEF - he’s a good one to have on your team.

Huh, never heard of that one with all the +++ signs.
I’m not into Arabians though.
I have heard of a similar one…Khemosabi. The bay one with the socks. Handsome fellow.

HAHAHAHA sorry, my typo – there is only one Khemo – he was indeed a grand
and handsome fellow. Damn, I need to get my eye’s checked again.

ETA Oh, all those symbols are legion marks – all those +'s and // means Khemo had
his Legion of Masters/Excellence award. Those symbols stay with the horses name
for the rest of their lives. And you have to do one hell of a lot of winning to get
those symbols. Makes me tired just thinking about it. LOL

That’s fine. I just want Tom Selleck!
He was on the Dating Game TWICE before he became famous, and WASN’T PICKED either time…

I was not there. I would have had better taste!

Wow. That has to be one of the craziest things I’ve ever read on this BB.

And that’s saying something!

Now I want to know about the guys who were picked over him. How did they turn out?
When selling a horse, you should be responsible for disclosing any known issues. It should not be up to the buyer to ferret them out.
Bingo…it doesn’t matter if it’s a horse, a car or a house. It’s the seller’s responsibility to disclose known defects.

I’ll be interested to read the trial transcript.

If you saw any of his old movies, he sucked. But when he was “Magnum” it was the perfect match, funny, Hawaii, tanned, etc, serendipity. My then boyfriend hated that I watched that show each week. Now when he is on TV he looks like he drinks too much.:frowning: (Like young elvis vs. old elvis)
But he’s always seemed like a nice guy, not getting caught drunk driving, not beating women, not doing drugs, heck, wait, he’s too nice. So he deserves to get his money back and to get punitive damages. I hope he cleans up on damages.
Glad too that the lawyer is son of a horse guy, so he probably knew his stuff and did a good job trying the case, wihich will net him 1/2 if contingent agreement.
And I hope the Zorro that one of the posters has seen on the east coast ends up with a good home. And hmmmmm, whatever happened to that switched horse that was on another thread? The one where a west coast horse was switched with another horse in NY? We never get to find out what happens after the thread ends.

I get that. (Though sometimes the shorts on Magnum were almost too short.)

But I’ve seen him in person at a couple of horse shows in the last few years, and I have to believe he was good looking as a young man. Plus, as you say, he seems to be a nice guy.

So I’m still wondering about the guys who were chosen ahead of him on The Dating Game.

Though come to think of it, wasn’t that the show where you couldn’t see the other person? Maybe that explains how the tall, dark, and handsome guy got left out- twice.

Not to date myself here but…

I met him as an almost nobody several times while working for Disney and he was, IIRC, a model (back in the day before the “super” tag and big paychecks)-and I believe he actually did some “Marlboro Man” print ads. He was pretty quiet and unassuming, not all brash and loud. Probably did not come off too exciting from behind that partition on that trashy show.

And, hey, whoever said he looked like he’s been drinking? Where the heck do you get that…comparing him to young Elvis and fat old druggie Elvis??

Only thing that happend to him is age…he is over 60. Magnum has been off the air for, like 20+ years. Back off, he was…and still is by all reports…a fine and decent sort who still works to support himself and his family.

I actually prefer him in The Sacketts;).

Sometimes the good guys can finish first.

Some men just get better with age.

Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott are two I still find swoon worthy, even though they’re not young’uns any more.

And, hey, whoever said he looked like he’s been drinking? Where the heck do you get that…comparing him to young Elvis and fat old druggie Elvis??

Yeah I don’t see that at all. He still looks great.

Sam Elliot, oooh la la. His voice is the best. He is the quintessential cowboy for me. Also a good Hell’s Angels guy.

Love your sig arabhorse2. I can’t tell you how many Dora episodes I have endured.

Thanks, Fancy.

I don’t have any small chilluns at my house, but I have friends who do, so I’ve seen more Dora episodes than I like to admit!

, I think most people are a bit surprised at how tall he is — he can carry those
few extra pounds at his height. Tom is over the top friendly with people – last year
a friend of mine came from PA to watch the Memorial Day Classic at Burbank, I asked
her if she wanted to meet Tom, she said sure — I walked over to Tom and said HEY TOM,
wanna meet my friend B from PA — he’s like sure, and the chat went on.

B is a poster on Coth so I won’t give you her full name.
