Does BN represent all the people with SS violations against them? I heard she is friends with the owner of horse show Diva and gets posts removed about her clients all the time. Looks like she doesn’t have that kind of pull here…?

Along the vein of finding helpful ways to support SS, I am curious if and how adults review the SS tests with young people so that they have an understanding as to what situations are in violation. Lots of pony kids ride better than adults over complicated courses, so I would hope that they are capable of understanding, in their own way, when they are being taken advantage of. Is there a video on SS that helps children? Helpful suggestions appreciated.

Huh?  That’s 95% of the issue. Minors generally don’t understand they’re being taken advantage of, or that it is OK to say no to an adult.

What would you need to see/hear/know, to be convinced that even a smart, well-raised child could be taken advantage of, and the child wouldn’t understand what was happening? And the child would be afraid to speak out, or if they did, their parent wasn’t equipped to identify or stop the abuse (especially in the grooming stage)?

Tommy catch-rode my OTTB for me at 2 KY shows about 16 years ago. My horse did not behave well and at no point did Tommy recommend drugging or lunging to death. In fact, my older trainer even asked it there was something we could give my horse that wasn’t yet deemed to be illegal. Tommy said no. I also spent some time around Tommy in Florida. I have never seen him to be anything but a gentleman and consummate horseman. My big question is would he risk his livelihood and life for drugging or dalliances? I think not.

   The people who risk their livelihood for drugging and dalliances expect not to get caught. I think yes.

 She represented Serio and Rob Gage. She did not represent George Morris.

Don’t. That is disgusting. Lynching isn’t a term you throw around. Tommy was not kidnapped in the night from his home by people in hoods and literally hung to his death from a tree somewhere. The reference in this case is disgusting. It’s fine if you find it injustice but that’s inappropriate in the extreme. And if Tommy is the gentleman you claim he would be ashamed at you using that term with respect to his situation.

      I have not been a part of his show barn. I have no DIRECT knowledge of any sexual misconduct on his part, but I have considerable faith in SafeSport’s investigation. I also disagree with your assumption that people in his show barn would necessarily be privy to the details of his relationships. 

      I hope he avails himself of the opportunity to appeal.

That’s just messed up. And contributes towards victim blaming in such a blatant way. “Well, she ribboned at pony finals, she should have known her trainer was just trying to take advantage of her by showing her extra attention.” WTF?

Heck there are adults who don’t fully understand they’re being manipulated because the manipulator or exploiter is so deft. Children do not have the capacity to understand this. That’s why they’re children and protected by the law.

@Bascule Baby your attitude too contributes to the overall issues. Just because you had a good interaction with him does not mean that TS has not done bad things. No person’s experience with someone invalidates someone else’s. A serial killer may be the most loving person to his mother or wife or children; that doesn’t mean he didn’t kill people.

Man you had to dig deep for that -try to read for comprehension - So your are saying that children should not be told about what is not okay ? And now I am saying kids who win pony finals deserve to get it? How perceptive - did you learn that kind of analytical thinking in high school? That this translates to victim blaming? I am well aware - So you say there is nothing anyone can do to help kids BEFORE they are taken advantage of?

I should add that I have handled literally hundreds of family law cases and have had the unfortunate position of having to report not only one but sometimes both parents to police, as in cases where the "innocent’ parent refuses to take the word of the child over that of their spouse. More than once I have had to drive with clients from the courthouse with a mother and her children in the car while being pursued by the father. I have seen some horrible stuff. And the poor kids.
