"Tomorrow" for Thrush...how long?

I am treating a horse with deep central sulcus thrush that has been really resistant to everything. I am now trying “Tomorrow” and inserting the tip into the sulcus crack and then flooding the area. How long should I continue this before I can be sure the thrush has been treated?

Thanks, NJR

Tomorrow is cephaparin, a first generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Give that you don’t want to breed resistance, I would treat 10 days.

I would also debrid the area with oxygen peroxide to remove any loose material before treating with the abx. You can additionally treat with copper sulfate or an anti-fungal.

Your farrier can also open the sulcus to remove some of the diseased tissue.

When I use it, I apply, then wedge a bit of cotton - the cotton doesn’t stay in terribly long but I feel like it gives the stuff more time to work.

When I tried it I didn’t need to treat it very long at all. The crack healed up almost immediately with no problems. The stuff works very quickly and well.

What Betonbill said. You will see improvement in a matter of days. I am not a fan of peroxide treatment under any condition.

Just a couple of days for me, too. Good stuff.
