Tonneau cover - help me decide!

I have a short bed truck and a gooseneck trailer. Had a roll up tonneau cover on my previous truck. I’m trying to decide between a roll up and a fold up cover on this truck. Any input good or bad? Thanks!

I like my roll-up! It rolls completely out of the way so I have never had to take it off. That may be especially preferable with a short bed, because a typical fold-up will take up a third of your already short bed when folded.

Really I think it’s just personal preference though.

After our roll up got ripped off in the wind while the truck was being towed we decided to go with a fold up. We now had a gooseneck trailer and it is easy to fold up or even take off. We got a lock on the tailgate and it is secure for when we travel.

Love the Backflip folding cover we have on our truck. It’s held up to super nasty hail storms and is easy to use.

I like the roll up cover I have because it required no drilling to attach it so I can remove it completely. It is not 100% weather proof though, in a very heavy rain storm or some car washes it will leak slightly. Luckily around here we don’t get too many heavy rain storms though.

We have a Backflip and it is great. Contrary to what another poster said, it can fold up completely out of the way so you can access the full length of the bed. We love it, since it makes the bed of the truck pretty secure with a tail gate lock on it.

Friend’s rollup flew off just driving down the road… Did some minor damage and he had to replace some clips.

Just remembered, another friend’s flew off too, 80 percent sure it was also a roll up. This one partially detached and flapped around, damaging the truck.

I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032H379E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It folds up and it has turned out to be awesome. Obviously, it’s not totally secure because it’s fabric, but we put it on our truck last spring and have driven back-and-forth to Colorado (across Kansas) dozens of times since then. It has never leaked, even in driving rain; and it’s been very secure even in some frighteningly high winds. Very easy to access the bed, fold it up and even take it off and put it back on.

For the money, I’ve been very impressed and very happy with it.

I love the roll up one for my truck. Actually my previous truck (1999) I was able to buy initially because it rolled up and locked. Then when I bought a new truck in '05, I bought the same one. It also has an advantage in that there are 3 places on the track that it will be lockable if you need it.

Between that and my Rhino lining of the truck bed, those were the best 2 purchases besides the truck!

We have a fold up one - I think it is the back flip.

The hubby is an uber researcher when it comes to buying things and he has to have the best that is out there.

He went with the back flip because it doesn’t get flappy/look sloppy in the wind, much cleaner looking overall and folds completely out of the way.

My opinion? I agree with him. BUT, I hate that folding it up causes you not to see out the back window and that that just drives my crazy!

We have had it for a couple years and it works great and looks great!

I have a fold up one, folds up just enough with a bit of spare room for the gooseneck. Love it, and the box is always dry when I need to climb in to hook up!
this is what I have.

As for backing up, no you can’t see the ball, but you learn to use your mirrors and judgement. I know exactly how much of my trailer should be sticking out of the right and left side. Plus the middle seat of the quad cab, the head rest is perfectly in line with the ball. So as long as the the head rest and gooseneck line up, I’m usually golden!

Our Tonneau cover got destroyed by a boisterous 13-year-old human. Company replaced it. Was probably still under some warranty, but still - that was nice.
