Top jumper (prefer Holsteiner) stallions known for throwing good minds, team players

Just wondering – anyone know what stallions (frozen or fresh) whose children trainers love to have in the barn because they make life easy? (good mind good talent and a pleasure to have around)

TIA

[B]Cunningham!!! I encourage you to take a serious look at him!!

The stallion himself is not really available but I heard nothing but good things about the temperaments of Kashmir van Schuttershof offspring and ended up with a granddaughter myself, who is just a joy to work with (and beautiful!) Not HOL though.

I whole-heartily endorse Cunningham - we have a Cunningham black dot in our barn right now. However, he is a hunter, not a jumper. Look at Wild Turkey Farm - they have several lovely jumper stallions and Barb would be happy to talk about temperaments and your needs. Just FYI - I am not affiliated with them, just worked with them to get my amazing Crown Affair colt (also a hunter).

For some reason I thought Cunningham had a sister doing the GPs…but maybe I am thinking of another gray hunter stallion? Always have loved his look.
And More than Luck I had not realized did the GP before doing the hunters --he offers an interesting double cross to Lucky By Compromise. I am thinking going with a hunter stallion that has GP jump might be giving one the temperment desired?

Great suggestions!

the ones I’ve known are very amiable - even the intact 3 yr olds

I saw Cunningham being collected last week when I was visiting my mare at the repro facility. He was a total gentleman and walked right on the trailer after collection with no fuss. From what I could see he himself has a superb temperament. In regards to his offspring, I can’t really comment.

Can you post pictures of your Crown Affair colt? I am a fan and wish to have one for myself sometime.

Will do in the next couple of days, Royal Monaco! He is finally looking less yak-like as he turned 1 on April 3rd! Will try to take some new pics tomorrow! Thanks for your interest! PS - His temperament is beyond reproach! He has always been friendly, calm, and curious without being spooky.

Royal Monaco (and anyone else interested, including OP) - here is a link to pictures of my Crown Affair colt as a yearling. http://s284.photobucket.com/user/Schohunter/library/Jasper%20is%20a%20yearling?sort=3&page=1

You might look at Fly. When I was looking for a young horse I heard lots of great things about the Kashmir van Schuttershofs being very ammy friendly from jumper people, which I need at this point! I ended up with a granddaughter as my next prospect, and she is so easy to deal with and brave at the same time. (Though she is an Everglade VDL, not a Fly, and is still a baby so too early to tell how she will be in the ring. She is a lovely mover though and is calm and workmanlike in the barn. And gorgeous! That stallion was gelded and sold in the WEF VDL auction last year and is doing the 7 year old YJCs now).

KvS himself is impossible to in the US but he has many very successful 1.6m offspring.

Fly has nice HOL lines on his mother’s side. Hyperion carries him. He is very handsome and has that KvS look/way of going. I think Everglade VDL might have slightly better gaits of the two and is a bit more modern but Fly might have more scope. He has a nice technique behind and is very powerful.

Just a random thought because I wanted mind and ability both, but didn’t really care about having a baby that looked like a hunter because I don’t do hunters.

We have Navarone (Jus de Pomme x Armstrong) who is like that. Everyone loves him and his babies. Just really fun and fantastic jumpers or dressage. Just an all around good one. He is not Holsteiner approved, but KWPN and most of the other German registries.

We have frozen from VDL Stud that has many Holsteiner bred too in stock and offer live foal guarantee contracts. Corland (Cor de la Bryere - Landgraf I) is Holsteiner approved and easy. Can make jumper or hunter with him and very well proven. We also have Holsteiner approved Bubalu (Baloubet du Rouet - Nimmerdor) now in stock. Both fantastic Grand Prix jumpers!

I have Up To Date Miltoo, who competed with amateurs and juniors after his international career. His offspring in Europe are mostly owned/ridden by amateurs and juniors. But he’s not Holsteiner…

Interesting take re corland. Our top mare was a corland, now doing 5*s with an Olympian in Europe, and we’ve had several others. They are not generally considered easy or uncomplicated by the pros who ride them, quite sensitive and quirky, and this is how I have personally heard his get described by vdl as well. Definitely special professional horses.

I have a 7yo Holsteiner mare by Cubito that I purchased as a yearling. I absolutely love her. She is in a regular program and she does a wonderful job taking care of me (amateur rider). She easily can and has done all three rings, I just prefer to focus on the jumpers (this was her original intended use). She has a great brain and is very willing to please. She also requires 0 prep and is very level headed. Even when she was showing in the hunter and eq rings, she never got lunged. This season is her second season showing and she is awesome at the shows. She has the potential to be an upper level horse. I originally purchased her as a project horse, but I would have a very hard time ever parting with this one.

I recommend Cunningham!! I am in the process of breeding my mare to Cunningham.( checking today to see if she took!) My boyfriend got to stop by and meet him in person. He is super gentleman of a stallion. His breeder Mary Slouka is a joy to work with. Also saw lots of his offspring. They were all big and well mannered. I am hoping to get a jumper baby out of him but wanted the laid back hunter temperament. And I feel like his bloodlines and temperament will give me both. And worse case scenario we will have a blast in the hunter derbies!!
I’m not sure I can post it a link to the video my BF took of Cunningham. But Mary handed Cunningham off to my BF’s friend who was there with him. He had never even held a horse let alone a stallion. And Cunningham just stood there patiently waiting for Mary to come back with more treats. Mary has done an amazing job with him.
