Top of hoof ( not the sole ) at the hair line, soft and peeling - what does this mean?

Today I noticed the top of my horse’s hooves, just below the hair line, seem soft and peeling. Does anyone know what this means/ what causes this?

Water? Have you been bathing him alot in this hot weather?

Nothing to be concerned about.

It’s like your cuticle, skin that sticks to the base of the nail/hoof as it grows out. Leave it alone.

Often happens when there’s been excessive moisture. Either way, not an issue.

That’s called the periople, and its normal. Comparable to a human cuticle.
