I currently just started reining, and now looking to get my own stuff. Hunter to reining, I know. But I was just wondering what the “brand names” in the western world are for saddles, tack, boots, rider apparel, etc. thanks!
Saddles, whatever the trainer you are working with likes.
Standard are Bob’s Custom saddles, Continental is a new brand that several top trainers like to work with now.
Your trainer should have you try several and see what you like best.
The same for the rest of your outfit.
What some like in one area may not be the same in another.
Reining you don’t have to use bling like in other western events, but you can.
Neat and clean is always in style.
Here is one place to look at those saddles:
I love Dennis Moreland Tack for reins, clinches, head stalls, etc. I ride in Dale Martin saddles but there are plenty of other excellent brands out there.
Love our Bob’s saddles. We have one that’s 20 years old and it’s my absolute favorite. So comfortable and has held up amazing. Have had some exposure to the Continental Saddles as we have a few in our barn and like them as well. They are a good price point when you can’t afford a new bobs.
As far as boots, pads and polos, we love classic equine and I really like won pads too. For Skid boots I prefer classic equine but I have a pair of professional choice ones I like too.
As far as clothes go, that’s more of an individual thing. I like cruel girl jeans and I have a variety of show shirts, my plain button ups are also cruel girls. They are a great price point and fit well.
As far as cinches go, I like professional choice mainly. I like the buckle on the left side to have a roller on it, makes it easier to tighten.
I love balding bits. They make a medium port and shank correctional that’s about $135 that we have three of. Bob Avila makes a correction bit I love that’s $56. Every horse loves it and it’s pretty mild so you can pull them around a little. Myler makes a great low port bit that’s hinged on every way possible that I really like. It’s good for transitioning the 3 year olds to curb bits. They also make a twisted wire snaffle I really like.
Head stalls and Breast collars I think are all Individual preference. I don’t like bling. But I love good leather. Give me a work headstall with good leather over a gaudy blingy one that’s plasticky any day.
