Topeka Auction, 3-19-2019

Went to the Auction yesterday to see what they had and get rid of a few things. Goodness it has changed! First thing was going to the Office was where I learned the consignment policy has changed,. Everything to consign must be there the day before the sale. Nope, they would not accept anything late. Rats! So I signed up for a bidder number, went and parked the truck. Went by the carriages, not too many, also some sleighs, couple hitch wagons. Several homemade or home repaired, pretty rough. A nice sleigh, couple usable looking biggies and that was about it. The other stuff was very rough, needed lots of repair. No newer type vehicles that I saw.

Several auctioneers selling farm type accessories, farm machinery. The new stuff, collars, most saddles and harness selling inside. There was an entire hay wagon of just farm horse collars! Quite a line-up of harness, mostly farm draft harness. I got a couple nice whips reasonably to experiment with. Long sticks like we use. And that was about it for me. I don’t need anything in that catagory.

Did have fun stopping in Shipshewana at the bulk food store. Ever have gummy candy that looks like eggs sunny-side up? They are pretty good! Also stopped at Yoder General store, checking out kitchen gadgets. Their supply is amazing and I love gadgets! Found an excellent tool to scoop out avacado halves, melon pieces. It may be very useful. Also found another design of solid plastic shovel, on sale. A little flex to it, not brittle like the Ames ones. Have to see how it works out in use. Then headed home again.

I am about sick of driving though! Still have to unload the truck. I just backed it into the shed when I got home, under cover for today’s rain. Guess I will post my stuff on Craigslist, see if anyone calls on it. I would like to have my barn space back.

Dang! @goodhors
I was there with friends & stayed over for the Percheron sale & Draft Pull on Wednesday.
Wish we could have connected:cry:

Agree, the carriage selection was sparse.
A mere 2 lines of sale vehicles.
I did see 2 new-looking Dr Buggies go for under $300
Then the mini-sized Market Wagon I was interested in for the mini-mule a friend has went for over $425 :eek:
At least that’s where it was long after I lost interest.
It was in pretty rough shape too, so go figure…

There were some decent bargains in equipment.
Friend got 5-tine Tru-Temper pitchforks for $12.50ea, pony nylon leads for $2ea & neckropes for $4ea.
I bargained with a indoor vendor & got a very gently used curved neoprene breastcollar pad for my mini for $11.

I’m betting the bulk store you were at was E&S
I love that place!
And yes, I’ve had the gummi eggs :encouragement:
Yoder’s Meat & Cheese has free samples and a nice selection of both along with the gadgetry.

We used to like The Blue Gate for lunch, but it disappointed last visit.
We ended up at 5/20 & found that just as good as BG used to be, cheaper & great ice cream along with the homemade pies.

PM me next time you head that way!
I’ll be making several trips in the next couple months to pick up a friend’s horse at the Mennonite trainer.
And -hopefully - to Leroy Martin to do some modifications to my show cart.
Switching to stainless from brass fittings & recovering the seat to match.

Also planning a road trip to Litchfield, MI on May 18 for the Mini Pull benefit for St Jude.
